CAR reaches peace deal with rebels

03 Feb 2019; AFP: The Central African Republic government and 14 armed groups struck a deal Saturday to end years of fighting that has killed thousands, the parties and a mediator said.

The deal, the seventh since 2012, was announced on Twitter by the government of President Faustin-Archange Touadera just a day after the African Union and UN-sponsored talks in Khartoum were suspended amid disagreements over amnesty.

"A peace agreement has been reached," said the tweet.

BANGUI, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Central African Republic (CAR) stands ready to join the Belt and Road Initiative and wants its central location in Africa to be an advantage, President Faustin-Archange Touadera said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua.

In the run-up to the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), Touadera said the Belt and Road Initiative is "the important subject of connectivity."

Foreign Ministry confirms deaths of Russian journalists in Central African Republic

MOSCOW, July 31. /TASS/. The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed the deaths of three Russian citizens with journalists’ IDs in the Central African Republic (CAR).

"According to reports coming from the Central African Republic, three men having only press cards featuring the names Kirill Radchenko, Alexander Rastorguyev and Orkhran Dzhemal, were found dead near the city of Sibut [300 kilometers north of the Central African Republic’s capital city Bangui] on July 30," the ministry said.
