GAZA, Aug 2 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestinian health officials said, late last night that, a third wave of COVID-19 is expected soon in the besieged Gaza Strip, home of more than two million people.
Head of the departments to combat coronavirus at the European hospital, Mahmoud al-Sheikh, told reporters that the number of COVID-19 patients admitted in the hospitals is increasing, as a new wave of coronavirus is expected at the end of Aug, and “it will reach its peak between Oct and Nov.”
Meanwhile, Fathi Abu Warda, an advisor of the Palestinian minister of health, warned of spreading a new wave of coronavirus amid recent increasing numbers of infections.
“The Health Ministry is anticipating and concerned about the spread of a new wave of coronavirus in the Gaza Strip,” Abu Warda said, adding, the health situation in the Gaza Strip is deteriorating, amid a severe scarcity of medical resources and supplies, due to a blockade that Israel has been imposing on the enclave for 15 years.
The two health officials called on the population to get vaccinated and follow precautionary measures of wearing facemasks and abide by social distancing.
Palestinian Ministry of Health said yesterday that, it recorded three fatalities, 111 new COVID-19 cases and 111 recoveries in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, in the last 24 hours.
A total of 591,603 people have been vaccinated in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, so far, including 415,957 who received the second dose of the vaccine.
