Kanpur: Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt has invested in a start-up supported by IIT-K. It converts floral waste into charcoal-free luxury incense products.
Using its 'flower cycling' technology, the start-up has also launched 'Fleather' -- an alternative to animal leather made with flowers.
In the media release announcing the investment, Alia said: "I admired vision of making incense and bio-leather from recycled flowers, thereby contributing to keeping our rivers clean. It is creating a humane alternative to leather and providing employment to women in India's heartland."
Previously, this start-up had raised money in seed funding from national and international companies and IIT-K.
"The innovative 'flower cycling technology has enabled sustainable and eco-friendly waste flower management. Side by side it uplifts hundreds of women along the way," remarked Abhay Karandikar, Director, IIT-K.
The Start-up has received various prestigious awards so far.
