Kanpur: Replying to a query one junior doctor said that he had no information about the paucity of medicines at the Hallet Hospital. However, the patients there did not feel awkward in telling that doctors prescribe medicines that remain available outside the hall. A similar case rests with all the departments including orthopaedic, medicine etc.
The shortage of medicines in Hallett Hospital has been going on for the last several months, as reported.
It has now taken a new aspect. Earlier, medicines for only a few diseases were being procured from outside.
Now, most of the medicines are being procured from patients and relatives from outside.
Even many medicines falling in the category of life-saving drugs are not available in the hospital.
The remaining stock of antibiotics for many serious diseases including high BP, liver, kidney disease has also been exhausted.
In such a situation, apart from the patients admitted here, a big problem has arisen for the patients coming to the OPD here.
Principal of the Medical College, Dr. Sanjay Kala told that some medicines are available in the department, the rest may have been exhausted.
Actually, we had exhausted the budget of medicines three months back. We had informed the Medical Supplies Corporation Limited about this shortage.
Till now the demand has not been fulfilled. We get 60 percent of the medicines from the government and we have to take the remaining 40 per cent, he added.
Several hospitals attached to medical colleges are Dr. Murari Lal Chest Hospital, Kamlapat Cancer Institute and Medical College undergoing the same problem.
