OPEC seen backing big oil output cut, but awaits Russian support

VIENNA (Reuters) - OPEC ministers are expected to approve on Thursday the outlines of a deal for a significant cut in oil production to shore up prices hammered by the coronavirus outbreak but they are still waiting for Russia to indicate whether it will back such a move.

Saudi Arabia wants OPEC and its allies, including Russia, to cut 1 million to 1.5 million barrels per day (bpd) for the second quarter and to keep existing cuts of 2.1 million bpd, which expire this month, in place until the end of 2020.

Austria's new coalition gov't sworn in

The new government is the first conservative-green coalition in Austria and the first majority-female cabinet. And its Chancellor Sebastian Kurz of the People's Party (OVP) is still by far the world's youngest head of government at the beginning of his second term at 33.

Austria's foreign ministry says facing 'serious cyber attack'

5 January 2020; AFP: Austria's foreign ministry is facing a "serious cyber attack", it said late Saturday, warning another country could be responsible.

"Due to the gravity and nature of the attack, it cannot be excluded that it is a targeted attack by a state actor," it said in a statement with the interior ministry shortly before 11.00 pm (2200 GMT), adding that the attack was ongoing.

Sebastian Kurz: Austria's right-wing 'Wunderkind'

Austria’s Conservatives, Greens To Form Coalition Gov’t

VIENNA, Jan 2 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Austria’s conservatives and the Greens agreed to form a coalition government, ending almost three months of negotiations.

The agreement means Austria will have the left-wing Greens in government for the first time.

“We have reached an agreement,” Sebastian Kurz, Austria’s former chancellor and leader of conservative People’s Party, told reporters, in a joint press conference with Wener Kogler, his counterpart from the Greens.

Russia and Ukraine begin round of consultations on gas transit in Vienna

VIENNA, December 13. / TASS /: Russia's Gazprom and Ukraine's Naftogaz are holding talks in Vienna on the Russian-Ukrainian gas cooperation on Friday. The meeting is attended by the head of Gazprom Alexei Miller and the leadership of Naftogaz Ukraine, a TASS correspondent reports.

As expected, the main topic will be the extension of the contract for gas transit from Russia to Europe through the Ukrainian territory after 2019, since the current ten-year contract expires at the end of the year.
