Indian Navy bans staff from using smartphones at naval bases and ships

NEW DELHI, Dec 30 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Indian Navy has banned its personnel from using smartphones on its bases, dockyards and warships, according to local media.

“All social networking platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and other messengers from here on now will not be allowed at the naval bases and ships,” one report quoted an unnamed navy officer as saying.

The move is reportedly to prevent leaking of sensitive military information due to the widespread use of smartphones and social media sites.

Dense Fog Hits Indian Capital, Disrupting Rail, Air Transport

NEW DELHI, Dec 30 (NNN-PTI) – Dense blanket of fog covered Indian capital city New Delhi and outskirts Monday morning, leading to disruptions in air and rail transport, officials said.

The fog, according to officials, caused zero visibility, impacting traffic.

On the roads in the capital, the vehicular traffic was plying slowly because of poor visibility, and drivers were seen driving with emergency lights on.

Indian luxury car market to be flat in 2020

New Delhi, Dec 29 (PTI) German automobile company Audi expects Indian luxury car market to remain flat next year and growth to come in only in 2021, having gone through a challenging 2019.

The company, which is set to kick off 2020 with the launch of its flagship SUV Q8 in January followed by new version of A8 sedan in February, is cautiously optimistic about the year that will mark the transition to stricter emission norm BS-VI.

India: Delhi woman shot dead by husband for dowry

New Delhi, Dec 28 (PTI) A 25-year-old woman was shot dead allegedly by her husband over dowry demand in south-west Delhi's Kapashera area, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning and the body was thrown from the second floor of a building to make it look like a case of suicide, they said.

Police received information at around 5.40 am that a woman had jumped from the second floor of her residence in Samalkha village. She was then rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead, a senior officer said.

Cold Wave Continues To Intensify In India, Red Warning Issued

NEW DELHI, Dec 29 (NNN-PTI) – India Meteorological Department (IMD), today (Sunday), issued a red-coded warning, for parts of the country, as a cold wave continues to sweep across the country.

“Red-code warning was issued for Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, today,” IMD said. “Red colour warning does not mean Red Alert, instead it means take action.”

Officials said, an IMD red warning means “extreme weather conditions.”

India: Exports to rebound in 2020 but growth to remain subdued

New Delhi, Dec 28 (PTI) The continuous contraction in India's exports is likely to stop next year but the rate of growth will be subdued on account of the uncertain global trade situation due to rising protectionism.

Commerce Secretary Anup Wadhawan said the current slowdown in exports is mainly due to a decline in petroleum products, which constitute 13.42 per cent of overall outward shipments.

India: Seelampur violence: Court directs authorities to furnish medical reports of 2 accused

New Delhi, Dec 27 (PTI) A Delhi court on Friday directed the Mandoli Jail authorities to furnish medical reports of two of the fourteen accused arrested in connection with violent protests against the amended Citizenship Act in Seelampur area here.

Additional District Judge Brijesh Garg, who was hearing the bail plea of accused Yusuf Ali on medical grounds, asked the investigating officer (IO) to file his medical report by December 30 after procuring it from authorities of the Mandoli prison where he is lodged along with other accused.
