India: Over 300 students, ABVP activists march in support of CAA

Pune, Jan 28 (PTI) Over 300 students and members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad took out a rally in support of the Citizenship [Amendment] Act and National Register of Citizens in Maharashtra's Pune city on Tuesday.

Holding a 300-feet-long Indian flag, students and activists marched from Modern College's Ganesh Khind campus till the Shivaji Nagar campus, shouting slogans in support of the CAA and NRC.

Air India doubles flights on Tel Aviv-New Delhi route to tackle increase in passenger rush

Tel Aviv, Jan 26 (PTI) In view of the increase in passenger traffic on the Tel Aviv-New Delhi sector, India's official carrier Air India will double the number of flights on the route to six per week from April.

The national carrier created history by becoming the first commercial flight to fly to Israel over Saudi Arabia and Oman in March 2018, seen by many as a diplomatic breakthrough and often presented by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a major achievement of his government signalling improving ties with Gulf countries.

India: Eyeing leadership position in electric vehicle segment: Tata Motors

New Delhi, Jan 26 (PTI) Tata Motors aims to establish itself as the leader in the electric vehicle (EV) market in the country as it looks to roll out new products for both private and fleet segments, a senior company official said.

The company, which sells its Tigor EV primarily to fleet customers, is now gearing up to cater to the personal segment with the introduction of the electric version of compact SUV Nexon which comes with a range of over 300 kms.

India: Woman kidnapped, gang-raped in cotton field

Hyderabad, Jan 26 (PTI): A 36-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped after being abducted from her house in a village near Khammam in Telangana, police said on Sunday.

Two persons went to the woman's house on Friday night and took her to a nearby cotton field after threatening her, the police said.

India: Woman gang-raped; husband, 2 others arrested

Mumbai, Jan 26 (PTI) A 25-year-old man has been arrested by Jogeshwari police in the metropolis for allegedly orchestrating the gang-rape of his wife through two of his Facebook friends, an official said on Sunday.

The main accused is an autorickshaw driver hailing from neighbouring Palghar district while his two accomplices are employees of a pharma company here, he said.

India: Rape accused caught 11 days after escape from jail

Shimla, Jan 27 (PTI) A rape accused has been caught eleven days after his escape from Himachal Pradesh's Kullu jail, police said on Monday.

A resident of Tikra Baudi village, Khem Raj was caught by the Kullu police at Pirdi near Beas river on Sunday when he was going by foot to seek help from his friends in Bhuntar, Kullu superintendent of police Gaurav Singh said.

BJP functionary hacked to death

Tiruchirappalli, Jan 27 (PTI) A BJP functionary was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants at a market here on Monday, police said

Vijaya Raghu (40), a zonal secretary of the party at Palakarai, was working in the market area when a group of the assailants surrounded him and killed him before fleeing the scene, the police said.

CCTV footage is being examined to identify and catch the culprits, they said, adding that a case has been registered.

India: "Troubled" to see Omar Abdullah's picture, says Stalin

Chennai, Jan 27 (PTI) DMK President M K Stalin on Monday said he was deeply troubled to see a photograph of National Conference leader Omar Abdullah in which he sports an overgrown beard and demanded the Centre immediately release all leaders in detention in Jammu and Kashmir.

The top Dravidian party leader took to Twitter to demand his release and said "Deeply troubled to see this picture of @OmarAbdullah" and tagged three images of the Kashmiri leader.

India: Bars in five-star UP hotels to stay open till 4 am

Lucknow, Jan 27 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to allow bars in big cities to remain open up to 2 am and those in five-star hotels till 4 am, an hour later than earlier.

Principal secretary Sanjay Bhoosreddy told PTI that the decision, which will come into effect on April 1, is meant for the convenience of guests, particularly foreigners.

India: West Bengal govt tables anti-CAA resolution in Assembly

Kolkata, Jan 27 (PTI) The West Bengal government on Monday tabled a resolution against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in the Assembly.

The resolution appeals to the Union government to repeal the amended citizenship law and revoke plans to implement NRC and update NPR.

State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee introduced the resolution in the House around 2 pm.
