India: RSS acting like extra-constitutional authority: Gehlot

Jaipur, Nov 29 (PTI) The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is acting like an extra-constitutional authority, alleged Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in a special assembly session here on Friday.

He dared the RSS to convert itself into a political party and come out in the open.

"The RSS is acting like an extra-constitutional authority in the country. It should convert itself into a political party and come out in the open," he said, claiming that no minister or chief minister could be appointed without its consent.

India: Two girls gangraped in city, minor boys arrested

Kolkata, Nov 29 (PTI) Two minor girls, who beg outside the Kalighat temple in south Kolkata, were allegedly abducted and gangraped on the banks of Adi Ganga by three teenage boys, a senior police officer said on Friday.

While two of the three accused have been arrested following a complaint lodged by the girls with Kalighat police station, a search was on for the third teenager, he said.

Hyderabad/New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) A woman veterinarian whose charred body was found here was raped before being killed, police said, even as a Telangana Minister stoked a controversy asking why she had not called police immediately.

Police said four people have been arrested in connection with the rape and murder, which has sparked a national outrage.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's son and Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao said he would "personally monitor the case."

India: Unclaimed gold worth Rs 1 crore found under plane seat

Chennai, Nov 29 (PTI): Unclaimed gold bars worth Rs 1 crore, concealed under the seat of an aircraft which had arrived from Colombo, were seized at the airport here, Customs authorities said on Friday.

Acting on specific inputs that the precious metal was being smuggled by a passenger on Thursday, a search was made on the plane after it came here from the Lankan capital.

India: Economy down, PM busy with 'tamashas': Yechury

New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury hit out at the government on Friday over the country's GDP growth falling to 4.5 per cent, saying the economy was down, but the prime minister was busy with "tamashas".

India's economic growth slipped further to hit an over-six-year low of 4.5 per cent in the July-September quarter, according to official data released on Friday.

"The economy is down, but the govt's intention to fool the people keeps going up," Yechury wrote on Twitter.

India: Unable to repay loan, farmer commits suicide in Mahoba

Banda (UP), Nov 30 (PTI) A 40-year-old farmer has committed suicide in neighbouring Mahoba district, police said on Saturday.

Rakesh Sahu was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his house in Subhash Nagar locality under Panvadi township on Friday, police said.

The deceased's wife Budhia said her husband who owned two bighas of land had taken Rs 1.40 lakh loan under the Kisan Credit card in 2013 which had risen to Rs 2.11 lakhs because of non-payment of installments.

India: Rape victim succumbs to burn injuries

Sambhal (UP), Nov 30 (PTI) The 16-year-old girl who was allegedly raped and set ablaze by her neighbour in a township area here last week succumbed to serious burns in a Delhi hospital on Saturday, police said.

The girl, who was battling for life in the Safdarjung hospital in Delhi since the past nine days, died this morning, SP Yamuna Prasad said.

India: Man booked on rape charge in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Nov 30 (PTI) A 28-year-old woman was allegedly raped by an insurance agent at his office in the Mahavir Akhara area here, police said on Saturday.

The woman was allegedly called by the agent to his office for collecting her insurance payment receipt on Friday and served intoxicants in tea, SP Devenrdra Nath said.

On the complaint of the woman, an FIR had been lodged against the agent, identified as Dayashankar Verma, the SP said, adding that efforts were on to nab him.
