India: Karnataka Cong chief quits over poor show in byelections

Bengaluru, Dec 9 (PTI) Congress state president Dinesh Gundu Rao on Monday announced his resignation, taking moral responsibility for the party's poor show in the Karnataka assembly bypolls

The Congress, which held 12 of the 15 seats where byelections were held on December five, won only two, in a huge set-back to the opposition party.

India: Man hacks father to death

Mangaluru (Karnataka), Dec 5 (PTI) A 65-year-old man was hacked to death by his son in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, police said on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Krishna Naik from Bollimbala in Panaje village.

Police said Naik was fed up with his 28-year-old son Udaya not showing any interest in getting a job for himself and had frequent quarrels over it.

On Wednesday, after a heated argument, Udaya hacked his father with a machete and he died on the spot, police said.

Udaya has been arrested,they added.

India: Siddaramaiah, Kumaraswamy booked for sedition over protest against IT raids

India: ISRO successfully launches CARTOSAT-3, 13 US nano satellites

Sriharikota, Nov 27; GANASHAKTI: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Wednesday successfully injected into orbit its earth imaging and mapping satellite CARTOSAT-3 along with 13 commercial nano satellites from the United States.

ISRO Chairman K Sivan described today's launch as a "wonderful success."

With cloudy skies in the back ground, the 44.4 metre tall PSLV C47 rocket lifted off majestically at 9.28 am from the second launch pad at this spaceport here.

India: Fadnavis swearing in murder of democracy

Bengaluru, Nov 23 (PTI) Terming the swearing in of Devendra Fadnavis as Maharashtra chief minister as "murder of democracy", AICC general secretary K C Venugopal on Saturday said the BJP will have to pay a "heavy price for it."

He said the Congress will raise the issue in Parliament on Monday, as he predicted that the Fadnavis-led government will collapse in two-three days.

India: Karnataka by-polls: 248 candidates file nominations for 15 seats

Bengaluru, Nov 19 (PTI) A total of 248 candidates including those belonging to the Congress, JD(S) and ruling BJP have filed their nominations for December 5 bypolls to 15 assembly constituencies in Karnataka, the scrutiny of which would take place on Tuesday, poll officials said.

A total of 353 nominations have been filed by the candidates, they said.

India: CBI raids Amnesty International Bengaluru, Delhi offices

Bengaluru, Nov 15 (PTI) The CBI on Friday conducted raids at the Amnesty International Indias Bengaluru and Delhi offices.

An Amnesty International India executive, speaking on condition of anonymity, said about half-a-dozen CBI sleuths arrived at about 8.30 am at the Bengaluru office and carried out searches till 5 pm."

India: No compromise on principles, says Cong leader on Maha govt formation

Bengaluru, Nov 11 (PTI) As the Congress is holding discussions on whether or not to support Shiv Sena in forming a government in Maharashtra, senior party leader and former union minister Pallam Raju on Monday said there was no question on compromising with principles that the party stands for.

"There is no question of a compromise, we (Congress) act in a very very responsible manner and we do look to Sharad Pawar (NCP chief), who is a senior leader in Maharashtra, to also decide what should be the outcome," Raju said.

India: An exclusive park for monkeys in Karnataka to control their menace

Bengaluru, Nov 6 (PTI) The Karnataka government has decided to develop a monkey park on 100 acres in Shivamogga district to control their menace and to protect crops in the region.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa chaired a meeting along with Ministers, Chief Secretary, forest officials, MLAs and farmer representatives from Shivamogga district regarding damage caused by wild animals to crops in the region.

India: Savarkar a murderer, says Siddaramaiah

Mangaluru, Oct 18 (PTI) Calling Veer Savarkar a murderer, former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah slammed the BJP on Friday for its plan to bestow Bharat Ratna to him posthumously.

He said Savarkar was one of the accused in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, but the charges could not be proved due to lack of evidence and he was freed.

"The murderer of Mahatma Gandhi is getting Bharat Ratna! Those who conspired to eliminate Gandhiji are getting Bharat Ratna!
