India: No evidence against Sameer Khan in drugs case: court

Mumbai, Oct 14 (PTI) A special court here which granted bail to Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik's son-in-law Sameer Khan has observed that there was no evidence to establish that Khan was involved in drug trafficking.

Special judge for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act cases A A Joglekar granted bail to Khan and two others last month. A detailed order became available on Wednesday.

India: Girl `gang-raped'; four including boyfriend arrested

Nagpur, Oct 8 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was sexually exploited by her boyfriend and his friends and subsequently gang-raped by three strangers on the outskirts of Nagpur city, police said on Friday.

Four men including her boyfriend have been arrested in the case, they added.

As per the police, Aakash Bhandari (20) had an affair with the girl.

Between October 2 and 7, he and his friends Sandeep Pandhare (30), Firoz Shaikh (24) and Ajay Surankar (20) allegedly raped the girl at an isolated place in Isasani area.

Indian Rupee slips below 75/USD level in early trade

Mumbai, Oct 8 (PTI) The rupee opened on a weak note and fell below the 75 per US dollar level in early trade on Friday as rising crude prices and strength of the American currency in the overseas market weighed on investor sentiments.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened on a weak note at 75, then fell further to 75.15, registering a decline of 36 paise from its last close.

India: Raid on cruise ship `fake', no drugs were found: NCP

Mumbai, Oct 6 (PTI) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alleged on Wednesday that the NCB's raid on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast on October 2 was fake , and no narcotic drugs were found during it.

The party also questioned the presence of two persons along with the NCB team during the raid, and alleged that one of them was a BJP member.

India: BJP leader Kirit Somaiya gets bail in 2 defamation cases

Mumbai, Oct 5 (PTI) A Mumbai court on Tuesday granted bail to BJP leader Kirit Somaiya in two defamation cases filed against him by an NGO and a social worker for allegedly making false and defamatory remarks.

The complaints had been filed before a magistrate court here by the NGO Earth, and its founder and social worker Praveen Kalme in personal capacity.

The court last month issued summons to the BJP leader over Kalme's complaint.

Accordingly, Somaiya appeared before the magistrate's court at Sewree on Tuesday.

India: Adani to triple solar power generation capacity in 4 years

Hyderabad, Oct 4 (PTI) Having achieved the initial target of 25 Giga Watt renewable portfolio four years ahead of schedule, the Adani Group now plans to triple its solar power generation capacity in the next four years.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the 'TiE Sustainability Summit 2021' themed, "Where entrepreneurship meets sustainability", Gautam Adani said over the next decade, his group would invest over USD 20 billion in renewable energy generation.

India: Badminton coach held for molesting 14-year-old player

Pune. Oct 3 (PTI) A badminton coach in Pune was arrested for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old player at a sports facility, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday when the 36-year-old accused followed the victim into the locker room where she had gone to place the shuttle cock after a game, an official said.

He first struck a conversation, then held her hand and refused to let her go out when she tried to, the Hinjewadi police station official said.

India: FIR against lyricist Javed Akhtar over RSS remark

Mumbai, Oct 4 (PTI) Mumbai police registered an FIR against lyricist Javed Akhtar on Monday over his alleged remark against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), an official said.

The First Information Report (FIR) were registered at the Mulund police station on a complaint filed by city-based lawyer Santosh Dubey.

"The FIR has been registered under Indian Penal Code Section 500 (punishment for defamation)," the official from Mulund police station said.

India: Naxal camp busted in Maha, IED recovered

Gadchiroli, Sep 27 (PTI) A Naxal camp was destroyed in Mouza Fulnar forest in Gadchiroli in Maharashtra and an IED was recovered from the spot, a police official said on Monday.

The camp was busted after a team of C-60 commandos, a specialised combat unit of the district police, came under fire between 4:30 pm and 7pm on Sunday in Abujmad area along the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border, a release from the Gadchiroli superintendent of police's office said.
