MEXICO CITY, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Wednesday suggested "pausing" diplomatic relations with Spain, ratcheting up the rhetoric of his attacks on Mexico's former colonial power, which he has accused of plundering Mexico.

Speaking at a regular news conference, Lopez Obrador said it was matter of taking a "breather" without breaking diplomatic ties with Spain, saying "the relationship is not good now."

A spokesperson from Spain's Foreign Affairs Ministry declined to comment.

MEXICO CITY, Jan 28 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – Mexico’s exports grew 18.5 percent in 2021, compared to the previous year, bolstered by petroleum and manufacturing shipments, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) reported, yesterday.

The value of exports climbed to 494.225 billion U.S. dollars in 2021, compared to 416.999 billion U.S. dollars in 2020.

Meanwhile, imports grew by 32.1 percent in 2021, to 505.716 billion U.S. dollars, according to the INEGI press release.

MEXICO CITY, Jan 21 (Reuters) - Two Canadians died of gunshot wounds after an argument turned violent at a resort near Cancun on Mexico's Caribbean coast, authorities said on Friday.

Both guests at the upscale resort on the Riviera Maya of Quintana Roo state had criminal records, said Mexican officials, citing information from the Canadian police.

MEXICO CITY, Jan 14 (Reuters) - A Mexican cartel leader who became one of the most wanted criminals in Mexico due to his gang's industrial-scale theft of petroleum has been sentenced to 60 years in prison, state prosecutors said on Friday.

Jose Antonio Yepez, a notorious fuel thief blamed for fanning a sharp surge in violence in the central state of Guanajuato, was arrested in 2020 in what was a major coup for President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

The president’s reinfection mirrored a spike in coronavirus cases in Mexico that appears to be due to the spread of the omicron variant. While there has been little increase in new hospitalizations or deaths so far, many Mexicans expressed a sense of dread and discomfort.

MEXICO CITY, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Mexican authorities have arrested two suspects after an SUV filled with 10 bodies was left outside the office of a Mexican state governor in a public square lit up with Christmas tree and holiday decorations, officials said on Thursday.

David Monreal, governor of the central state of Zacatecas, said in a video filmed at the plaza that the car contained bodies of people with apparent signs of beating and bruising.

MEXICO CITY, Dec 15 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – The death toll rose to at least 60, after a fuel tanker exploded in Haiti’s northern port city of Cap-Haitien yesterday, a local official said.

Dozens of people were injured and have been transported to hospitals in Cap-Haitien, Haiti’s second-largest city, Deputy Mayor, Patrick Almonor, told reporters, describing the blast as “horrible.”

“Firefighters are making an initial assessment to determine the number of houses burned” as a result of the explosion, Almonor added.

MEXICO CITY, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- More than 40 people died and dozens were injured after a fuel truck exploded in northern Haiti, media and officials said on Tuesday.

The blast occurred in Haiti's northern port city of Cap-Haitien, Prime Minister Ariel Henry tweeted, extending his condolences on behalf of the government and the Haitian people.

He also announced a three-day national mourning to commemorate the victims.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico and the United States began work Tuesday on the new framework that will govern their security relationship going forward and replaces the Merida Initiative, which had focused on building up Mexico’s capabilities to battle the drug cartels.

The U.S.-Mexico Bicentennial Framework for Security, Public Health and Safe Communities seeks to move beyond the Merida Initiative.
