UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Security Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution to approve a "technical rollover" for the mandate of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to allow more time for negotiations on a longer-term mandate renewal.

Resolution 2595, which was unanimously adopted by the 15-member council, decides to extend the mandate of UNSMIL till Sept. 30, 2021.

NEW YORK (AP) — Three companies linked to a Chinese businessman who is a prominent critic of his country’s ruling Communist Party have agreed to pay $539 million to settle charges they conducted an illegal securities offering, according to regulators.

The New York- and Arizona-based companies linked to Guo Wengui raised $487 million from 5,000 investors who bought stock in GTV Media Group Inc. and a digital asset called G-Coins or G-Dollars, the Securities and Exchange Commission said Monday.

NEW YORK (AP) — Classroom doors swing open for about a million New York City public school students on Monday in the nation’s largest experiment of in-person learning during the coronavirus pandemic.

The start of the school year coincides with several milestones in the city’s pandemic recovery that hinge on vaccine mandates.

Nearly all of the city’s 300,000 employees will be required to be back in their workplaces, in person, Monday as the city ends remote work. Most will either need to be vaccinated, or undergo weekly COVID-19 testing to remain in their jobs.
