North, South Korean leaders to hold talks on September 18-19

SEOUL, September 17. /TASS/. The North and South Korean leaders will hold bilateral negotiations on Tuesday and Wednesday, said a spokesperson for the South Korean president’s administration at Monday’s briefing for journalists.

"Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong-un will hold two rounds of bilateral negotiations - on Tuesday and Wednesday," the administration official stressed.

S. Korea expresses regret over cancelled Pompeo visit to DPRK

SEOUL, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's foreign ministry on Saturday expressed regret over the cancellation of U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

From the South Korean side, it was sorry for Pompeo's "delayed visit" to the DPRK, the ministry said in a statement.

The statement said it would be significant to continue to seek ways to make talks between the DPRK and the United States contribute to the common goal of the Korean Peninsula's complete denuclearization and the permanent peace settlement.

S. Korean impeached president Park sentenced to 25 years in prison by appeals court

SEOUL, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Park Geun-hye, South Korea's impeached and ousted president, was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison by an appeals court over corruption charges including bribery, exposing the deep-rooted collusive ties between politicians and businessmen.

The Seoul High Court raised Park's sentence by one year from the lower court's ruling of the 24-year imprisonment. Park was fined 20 billion won (18 million U.S. dollars), higher than the lower court's fine of 18 billion won (16 million U.S. dollars).

S. Korea, DPRK agree to hold summit in Pyongyang in September

SEOUL, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) agreed Monday to hold a third summit between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang in September.

The agreement was reached after the senior-level talks between the two sides at Tongilgak, a DPRK building in the border village of Panmunjom.

The joint statement, issued after the talks, said the two Koreas agreed to hold the Moon-Kim summit in Pyongyang before the end of September.
