14 Nov 2018; DW: Swedish lawmakers have voted to reject Moderate party leader Ulf Kristersson's bid to become prime minister. The vote means that Sweden will remain in a political deadlock for the foreseeable future.

The Swedish parliament, as expected, rejected center-right Moderates party leader Ulf Kristersson as new prime minister in a vote on Wednesday. There is now no end in sight to the political deadlock that has gripped the country since elections in September.

American scientists William Nordhaus of Yale University and Paul Romer of New York University's Stern School of Business have been awarded the 2018 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences for "integrating innovation and climate with economic growth," the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said in a statement on Monday.

STOCKHOLM, October 5. /TASS/. The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to physician Denis Mukwege from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Iraqi human rights activist Nadia Murad, the Norwegian Nobel Committee said in a statement on Friday.

STOCKHOLM; 3 Oct 2018; DW: The Nobel Prize in Chemistry was on Wednesday awarded to two Americans and a British man.

Frances H. Arnold (US), George P. Smith (US) and Sir Gregory P. Winter (Britain) will share the award.

The three scientists helped develop proteins that  "solve humankind's chemical problems," the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said, adding that they "have taken control of evolution and used it for purposes that bring the greatest benefit to humankind."

STOCKHOLM, October 2. /TASS/. The 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to scientists Arthur Ashkin of the US, Gerard Mourou of France and Donna Strickland of Canada, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced on Tuesday.

"The inventions being honored this year have revolutionized laser physics," the Academy said in a statement.

STOCKHOLM, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Two scientists have shared 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, the Nobel committee announced here on Monday.

The Nobel assembly at the Karolinska Institute has decided to award the 2018 physiology or medicine prize jointly to James P. Allison and Tasuku Honjo for their discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation.

STOCKHOLM; 25 Sep 2018; (AP) — Sweden’s prime minister lost a vote of confidence in parliament on Tuesday after an election this month stripped him of his majority.

Stefan Lofven, the leader of the Social Democratic Party who has been prime minister for four years, will continue in a caretaker role until a new government can be formed that has the command of the Riksdagen.

Lawmakers voted 204-142 against Lofven, while three abstained. The vote was mandatory after the Sept. 9 general election delivered a hung parliament.
