Activists: Airstrikes halt Turkish convoy on road in Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — Airstrikes halted a Turkish military convoy carrying ammunition after it crossed into northern Syria on Monday, bound for a rebel-held stronghold, opposition activists said.

The strikes hit near the highway where the convoy was moving, the activists added.

It was not immediately clear whether it was Syrian government or Russian warplanes that struck near the convoy but the development marked a sharp escalation in tensions in the northwestern province of Idlib where Syrian troops have been on the offensive for weeks.

Syria says air defences foil missile strike

16 Aug 2019; MEMO: Syrian air defences identified a missile that was fired towards the city of Masyaf near Hama late on Thursday and destroyed it before it hit its target, a Syrian military source said, Reuters reports.

The missile was fired from the direction of northern Lebanon, the military source added in a statement distributed on a messaging app.

Attacks by regime, Russia kill 10 civilians in North Syria

15 Aug 2019; MEMO: At least 10 civilians were killed in attacks carried out by Russian and Syrian regime forces in the de-escalation zone in northern Syria, the White Helmets civil defense agency said on Thursday, Anadolu Agency reports.

According to Mustafa Haj Yusuf, head of the White Helmets in Idlib province, 10 people were killed in the airstrikes on late Wednesday.

Syria’s Aleppo symbol of Assad’s wins and of enduring war

ALEPPO, Syria (AP) — Members of the al-Ali family were walking home from shopping when several shells slammed into the busy street on the western edges of the Syrian city of Aleppo. The blast tore through them, killing 2-year-old Salam and one of her cousins, and incinerated a car nearby with a woman and her infant daughter inside.

It was one of multiple attacks by rebels firing from Aleppo’s outskirts that killed more than a dozen civilians last month.

US deploys more military, logistics equipment in Syria

HASAKAH, Syria, Aug 11 (NNN-ANADOLU) The U.S continues to dispatch military and logistics equipment to the terrorist YPG/PKK-occupied area the east of Euphrates River in Syria. 

An Anadolu Agency footage recorded late Friday the fresh U.S. delivery through the Semelka border gate at the Iraq-Syria border.

After passing through the northeast of Syria, the convoy proceeded to internal areas as 70 trucks were carrying armored military vehicles, prefabricated buildings and construction equipment. 

Syria rejects U.S.-Turkish safe zone agreement

DAMASCUS, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Syrian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that the Syrian government rejects the U.S.-Turkish agreement to establish a safe zone in northern Syria, state news agency SANA reported.

A ministry statement branded the United States and Turkey as forces of occupation, saying the agreement, which was reached on Wednesday, constitutes a flagrant violation of the international law and the UN Charter.

Syrian Kurdish Urges For Dialogue To Avert Turkish Operation In E Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria, Aug 7 (NNN-SANA) – Omar Ossi, a Syrian Kurdish lawmaker, urged the Kurdish militia, to embark on a dialogue with the Syrian government, to avert a Turkish military operation in eastern Syria.

Ossi said that, the recent Turkish threats of starting a military operation in Kurdish-controlled areas, in north-eastern Syria are “dangerous and serious.”

“The situation is so dangerous and would be more dangerous, in case of a Turkish incursion into north-eastern Syria,” he said.

Syria air base blast kills dozens of regime fighters: monitor

04 August 2019; DW: More than 30 Syrian government fighters have died in a blast at a military airport in central Syria, according to a monitoring group. The airfield was the alleged origin of a chemical attack on a rebel-held town in 2017.

A massive explosion at Shayrat air base in Syria's central Homs province on Saturday killed at least 31 regime soldiers and allied paramilitaries, a monitoring group reported.
