India: Teen sisters' death in UP, honour killing a possibility

Pilibhit (UP), Mar 24 (PTI) Police are suspecting the parents' role in the case of two teenage sisters who were found dead under mysterious circumstances at Jasauli village here, an official said on Wednesday.

The two deceased, aged 17 and 19, had gone out to attend to nature's call on Monday night but did not return. One of them was found dead in a field while the other was found hanging from a tree on Tuesday morning, Pilibhit Superintendent of Police Jai Prakash said.

India: Man gets 10 years RI for raping girl in UP's Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, Mar 24 (PTI) A court here has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 17-year-old girl over five years ago.

The special judge of Prevention of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) court-2, Ravinder Prasad Gupta, convicted Akshay for raping the girl on January 23 in an area under the Loni border police station limits.

India: Three men arrested in UP's Ghaziabad for raping a minor

Ghaziabad, Mar 24 (PTI) The Ghaziabad police has arrested three men for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl repeatedly in Sihani Gate police station area.

City Superintendent of Police Nipun Agarwal said a class 10 student, the girl had come in contact with a motorcycle mechanic who ran his workshop at the corner of the street in which the girl's house was located.

The mechanic first lured the girl to his shop on March 11 night and raped her along with his friends, the SP said, adding the accused also made a video of the rape.

India: Woman raped in UP's Shahjahanpur

Shahjahanpur (UP), Mar 25 (PTI) A 35-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a man in this district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Thursday.

The woman, whose husband works in Delhi, was alone at her house on Tuesday night when the 50-year-old accused barged in and allegedly raped her, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sanjeev Bajpai said.

The woman later informed the police about the incident and a case was registered against the accused, the SP added.

India: Two arrested for killing woman over dowry in UP

Ballia (UP), Mar 24 (PTI) Two people were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing a woman for dowry in Uttar Pradesh's Revati area, police said.

The body of Rekha (22) was found hanging from the ceiling of her room on Tuesday, said SHO, Revti, Yadvendra Pandey.

An FIR was registered against the victim's husband Bhola Sahni, brother-in-law Sonu and his wife Chunni Devi based on a complaint by Rekha's father Durga Chowdhury, he said.

India: Three IPS officer forced to retire in UP

Lucknow, Mar 23 (PTI) Three IPS officers have been prematurely retired in Uttar Pradesh, including the one who has been at loggerheads with the state government.

An officer of the 1992 batch, Inspector General Amitabh Thakur, on Tuesday disclosed his retirement on Twitter, attaching a copy of the orders issued by the Union government. He was currently posted as the Joint Director (Civil Defence).

India: Four Catholic nuns harassed, detained over allegations of forcible conversion

Jhansi/Kochi, Mar 23 (PTI) Four nuns were taken off an express train and detained for questioning by railway police in UP's Jhansi recently, with the Kerala Catholic Bishops Council (KCBC) expressing concern over the matter.

KCBC on Tuesday alleged two nuns belonging to Kerala- based Sacred Heart congregation and two postulants were harassed during the March 19 incident, even as Congress and BJP took up the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, respectively.

India: 9 foreigners of Tablighi Jamaat discharged by Lucknow court

Lucknow, Mar 23 (PTI) A Lucknow court has discharged nine foreigners belonging to Tablighi jamaat from the cases lodged against them during the Covid outbreak in the country.

The nine had been booked for allegedly committing various penal offences and breaching provisions of the Foreigners Act and Epidemic Act.

While discharging the nine, Chief Judicial Magistrate Sushil Kumari, however, stipulated that their bail bonds and personal bonds would be discharged only after the appropriate action by the Central government.

India: UP woman held hostage, raped for 4 days

Banda (UP), Mar 24 (PTI) A man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly holding a woman hostage and raping her for four days in a village here, police said.

According to police, the accused Mobin (30) took the woman to his place for some work and sexually abused her.

"The 25-year-old woman along with her husband filed a complaint and an FIR was registered against the accused on Tuesday," Jaishyam Shukla, SHO, City police station said.
