Amazon adds 7,000 more UK jobs as pandemic e-commerce booms

London, Sep 3 (AP/PTI) E-commerce giant Amazon is adding 7,000 more permanent jobs in the U.K. by the end of the year, in the latest sign that demand for online shopping and services is booming amid the pandemic.

The company said Thursday that the jobs will be created at Amazon warehouses, sorting centers and delivery stations across the United Kingdom as well as its corporate offices.

US trade deficit surges in July to highest in 12 years

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. trade deficit surged in July to $63.6 billion, the highest level in 12 years, as imports jumped by a record amount.

The Commerce Department reported that the July deficit, the gap between what America buys and what it sells to foreigners, was 18.9% higher than the June deficit of $53.5 billion. It was the largest monthly deficit since July 2008 during the 2007-2009 recession.

India: Centre has no roadmap to revive country's economy: Pilot

Jaipur, Sep 3 (PTI) Expressing concern over the state of economy, former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot claimed on Thursday that the Centre does not have a roadmap to revive the country's economy.

He said several months have passed but so far, only announcements of incentives have been made by the Union finance minister.

U.S. federal debt to be larger than the size of economy in 2021: CBO

WASHINGTON, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Driven by the massive fiscal response to the COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. federal debt is projected to exceed the size of the economy for the fiscal year 2021, the highest level since World War II, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) said Wednesday.

In An Update to the Budget Outlook: 2020 to 2030, the CBO projects a federal budget deficit of 3.3 trillion dollars in fiscal year 2020, which ends on Sept. 30, more than triple the shortfall recorded in 2019.

India reeling under 'Modi-made disasters': Rahul

New Delhi, Sep 2 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the state of the economy, rise in COVID-19 cases and "external aggression" at borders, alleging that India is reeling under "Modi-made disasters".

His attack comes after official data showed on Monday that the country's economy suffered its worst slump on record in April-June, with the gross domestic product (GDP) contracting by 23.9 per cent as the coronavirus-related lockdown weighed on the already declining consumer demand and investment.

Indian Govt bans 118 more mobile apps, including PUBG

New Delhi, Sep 2 (PTI) The government on Wednesday blocked 118 more mobile applications, including popular gaming app PUBG, terming them prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity and defence of the nation.

The banned apps include Baidu, Baidu Express Edition, Tencent Watchlist, FaceU, WeChat Reading and Tencent Weiyun, besides PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite, according to an official statement.

All these banned apps have Chinese links, sources said.
