Trump off to London for NATO summit, under pressure to steer clear of British election

WASHINGTON, Dec 2 (NNN-AGENCIES) — US President Donald Trump leaves on Monday for a NATO summit in London and he is under pressure from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to resist the temptation to wade into the British election campaign coming up later in December.

As a presidential candidate in 2016 and then as president since early 2017, Trump has shown no restraint in showing support for Britain’s exit from the European Union and critiquing the politicians involved in the country’s long-running Brexit debate.

India plans to invest $1.39 trillion in infrastructure to spur economy

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India will unveil a series of infrastructure projects this month as part of a plan to invest 100 trillion rupees ($1.39 trillion) in the sector over the next five years, the finance minister said on Saturday, in a push to improve the country’s economy.

Nirmala Sitharaman’s comments, as cited in local newspapers, followed data released on Friday that showed India’s economic growth slowed to 4.5% in the July-September quarter - its weakest pace since 2013 - upping the pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to speed reforms.

India's apparel exports to EU face a duty disadvantage: Irani

New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) India faces competition from countries like Vietnam, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka that enjoy preferential or duty-free access to key markets like the European Union, Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani said on Friday.

"Apparel exports from competing countries enjoy zero/preferential access to European Union whereas India faces a duty disadvantage. Besides Bangladesh and Vietnam have a large and productive labour force," Irani said.

China factory activity expands in November after 6-month losing streak

Beijing, Nov 30 (AFP/PTI) China's November factory activity rebounded for the first time in seven months, data showed Saturday, despite the looming threat of fresh US tariffs within weeks if Beijing and Washington fail to sign a partial trade deal.

The closely watched Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), a key gauge of activity in the country's factories, rose to 50.2 in November, up from 49.3 last month, the National Bureau of Statistics said.

New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury hit out at the government on Friday over the country's GDP growth falling to 4.5 per cent, saying the economy was down, but the prime minister was busy with "tamashas".

India's economic growth slipped further to hit an over-six-year low of 4.5 per cent in the July-September quarter, according to official data released on Friday.

"The economy is down, but the govt's intention to fool the people keeps going up," Yechury wrote on Twitter.

Revised data shows deforestation in Brazil Amazon at decade high

BRASÍLIA, Nov 29 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Brazil released revised statistics showing deforestation in the Amazon rainforest surpassed 10,000 sq km in the year to July 2019, the highest in more than a decade.

The National Institute for Space Research (INPE) said last week that satellite data showed 9,762 sq km were cleared of trees in the 12-month period, an increase of 29.5 per cent.

Mongolian PM To Visit Russia To Boost Ties

ULAN BATOR, Mongolia, Nov 30 (NNN-MONGOLIAWEB) – Mongolian Prime Minister, Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, will pay an official visit to Russia from Tuesday to Friday, at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, said.

During his visit, Khurelsukh is expected to hold talks with Medvedev and Russian President, Vladimir Putin, on expanding bilateral ties and cooperation in a wide range of areas, the ministry said.

First Non-Stop Flight From Cairo To China’s Hangzhou Takes Off

CAIRO, Nov 30 (NNN-XINHUA) – The first non-stop flight from Egypt’s capital Cairo to the city of Hangzhou in eastern China has taken off from the Cairo International Airport at 02:00 local time (00:00 GMT).

With the flight number MS953, the flight, which is launched by Egypt’s flag carrier, EgyptAir, will spend around 11 hours in the air and land on Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport at 19:00 local time (11:00 GMT).

The flight almost carries a full cabin and the environment on the flight is quite cozy, said Fu Hangliang, a passenger on the flight.
