4 killed as bomb hits mini-bus in Afghan capital Kabul

KABUL, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed and five others wounded in a bomb attack targeting a mini-bus in western part of Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, on Thursday, the third bomb explosion hitting public transport buses within the week, the capital police confirmed.

"The blast occurred in Pul-i-Sokhta locality. The number of death toll may change," Kabul police spokesman Ferdaus Faramarz told reporters via a text message, citing initial information.

One sedan also caught fire and a fire-fighting unit of Kabul police was responding to the incident, he said.

Bombers aim for buses in new tactic to spread death and fear in Afghanistan

(Reuters) --- Militants in Afghanistan are adopting a new tactic to spread fear in the capital, Kabul, especially among the the ethnic Hazara minority, planting bombs on crowded buses that have until now largely been spared such bloodshed.

Two blasts on buses in an area dominated by Shi'ite Muslim Hazras killed at least 12 people and wounded 10 on Tuesday, raising new fears in the community and alarming security officials who say such attacks are nearly impossible to stop.

6 killed after roadside bomb hits bus in Afghan capital

KABUL, June 2 (Xinhua) -- At least six civilians were killed and seven others wounded in a bomb attack targeting a bus in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan Tuesday evening, the latest in a string of bomb blasts in the city, an Interior Ministry official confirmed.

"The initial information found six civilians were killed and seven others wounded. The number of casualties may change," Hamid Roshan from the ministry told Xinhua.

The incident occurred near a bus stop in Masjed-e-Halebid area in Police District 3 roughly at 7:15 p.m. local time, he said.

16 Taliban Militants Killed, Eight Arrested In Afghanistan

KABUL, May 31 (NNN-XINHUA) – At least 16 Taliban militants were killed and eight others arrested, in two Afghan provinces, the country’s Ministry of Defence confirmed today.

In the northern Kunduz province, five people were freed from Taliban’s clutch, after Afghan National Army commandos raided a Taliban hideout in Qosh Tapa village, on the outskirts of provincial capital Kunduz city, last night, the ministry said in a statement.

6 Afghan civilians killed as mortar mine slams into residential area

MAHMUD-E-RAQI, Afghanistan, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Six civilians have been confirmed dead as a mortar mine struck residential area in the northeastern Kapisa province on Saturday, provincial police spokesman Shaeq Shurash said Sunday.

Blaming the Taliban militants for the attack, the official asserted that the "Taliban rebels fired the mortar mine on Saturday afternoon which struck a residential area in Anarjoi village of Tagab district," killing six and injuring 10 others, all civilians.

Afghan forces foil Taliban attacks on 6 districts in Badakhshan, 23 including 3 soldiers killed

FAIZABAD, Afghanistan, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Afghan forces have foiled Taliban militants' attacks on six districts in the northern Badakhshan province on Monday and the militants fled away after suffering casualties, an army spokesman in the northern region Abdul Razaq said.

The Taliban militants, according to the official, launched simultaneous attacks on Raghistan, Wardoj, Jarm, Khash, Darayem and Yaftal Payan districts early Monday but their offensives have been repulsed and the militants fled away within hours after leaving 20 bodies behind.

Six Taliban Militants Killed In Afghan Army Airstrikes Near Kabul

KABUL, May 23 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Six Taliban militants were killed and four others wounded, after the Afghan Air Force (AAF) launched air strikes in the eastern Logar province, the military confirmed today.

“The AAF strikes were conducted in Mohammad Agha and Baraki Barak districts of Logar province, about 60 km south of Kabul, yesterday. Among the killed was a local Taliban leader,” the army’s 203 Thunder Military Corps said in a statement.

At Least 12 Taliban Militants Killed In Airstrikes In Afghanistan

MEHTARLAM, May 20 (NNN-AGENCIES) – At least 12 Taliban militants were killed today, when the Afghan Air Force targeted their hideouts, in eastern Laghman province, the military confirmed.

“The airstrikes were conducted in Salo locality of Ali Shing district, at midday. Also, some amount of Taliban’s weapons were destroyed as a result of the strikes,” the army’s Selab 201 Corps said, in a statement.

The province has been the scene of heavy clashes between security forces and the Taliban militants in recent days.
