ZAGREB, May 7 (Xinhua) -- An airplane crashed on Thursday near the Croatian coastal city of Zadar, killing two members of the Croatian Air Force, the Ministry of Defense said.

According to the ministry, the deceased were a flight instructor and a cadet, who were flying a small Zlin aircraft. The accident happened at around 4 p.m. local time near the village of Biljane Donje during a regular training flight.

ZAGREB (Reuters) - The earthquake that struck the Croatian capital Zagreb a month ago caused around 42 billion kuna ($6.03 billion) of damage and country will be seeking outside help to pay for the reconstruction work, the government said on Wednesday.

A 15-year-old was reported to be in critical condition and 16 other people were injured, authorities said.

ZAGREB (Reuters) - The European Union pleaded on Friday for migrants in Turkey not to go to the Greek border or try to breach it, saying the frontier was closed and that any encouragement to do by Turkish authorities was a game that had to stop.

Greek security forces have used tear gas and water cannon to deter tens of thousands of migrants trying to cross the border from Turkey after Ankara said last week it would no longer abide by a 2016 deal with the EU to keep them.

ZAGREB, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Former Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic was sworn in here on Tuesday as the fifth Croatian president at the President's Office.

"I will invest everything I know and everything I have to build a presidential term that will benefit Croatia and all its citizens," Milanovic said in his inaugural speech after reading the oath before Constitutional Court President Miroslav Separovic.

Milanovic said he believes that the scientific community, the judiciary system and the media must improve the mechanisms for combating dishonesty and corruption.

ZAGREB, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Croatian Defense Ministry confirmed on Monday that a Kiowa military helicopter with two crew members on board had crashed into the Adriatic Sea between Zablace and Zlarin in the Sibenik archipelago, killing one pilot.

ZAGREB (Reuters) - Croatia said it will send a request for bids on Wednesday to seven states seeking to buy a squadron of new or used fighter jets in an effort to modernize its air force.

A year ago Croatia’s intention to buy 12 used F-16 fighter jets from Israel fell through after Israel said it could not get approval from the United States for the sale.
