India: 20 more Delhi Police personnel test COVID-19 positive

New Delhi, June 1 (PTI) Twenty police personnel posted at Moti Nagar police station in West Delhi tested positive for COVID-19, officials said on Monday.

The first case at the police station was reported around 10 days ago, following which other staff were advised to remain in home quarantine, they said.

The SHO of the police station, his reader, an inspector and head constables who work with him and personnel from the picket team are among those who have tested positive for the deadly virus, a senior police officer said.

India: JMI to digitise rare manuscripts

New Delhi, Jun 1 (PTI) Jamia Millia Islamia has acquired an overhead scanning device for the digital preservation of rare manuscripts and other archival documents.

Made in France, the very high speed scanner has a capacity to scan a page in less than a second and it was acquired with the financial support of National Archives of India, Ministry of Culture, the varsity said on Monday.

Delhi HC to monitor disposal of COVID-19 bodies

New Delhi, Jun 2 (PTI) The Delhi High Court on Tuesday said it would be monitoring implementation of the AAP government's recent order on disposal of bodies of those who died of COVID-19.

A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan said that it wants to see how the Delhi government health department's May 30 direction regarding disposal of COVID-19 dead has worked at the ground level.

India expels 2 officials of Pakistan High Commission on charges of espionage

NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD, June 1 (NNN-AGENCIES) — India expelled two officials of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi after they were apprehended earlier in the day for espionage activities, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said.

The two officials, Abid Hussain and Muhammad Tahir, were caught by the Delhi Police while they were obtaining sensitive documents relating to India’s security installations from an Indian national in exchange of money, official sources said.

India: Court grants 10 days interim bail to ex-Cong councillor Ishrat Jahan to get married

New Delhi, May 30 (PTI) A Delhi court on Saturday granted interim bail for 10 days to former municipal councillor from the Congress Ishrat Jahan, who has been booked under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, to get married.

She has been booked under the anti-terror law in a case related to communal violence in northeast Delhi in February.

Additional Sessions Judge Dharmender Rana granted the interim relief from June 10 to June 19 to Jahan on furnishing two sureties of Rs 1 lakh.

India: CAA-protest: Court extends interim bail of local leader Ashu Khan by 45 days

New Delhi, May 30 (PTI) A Delhi court on Saturday extended by 45 days the interim bail of local leader Ashu Khan who was arrested for allegedly rioting and instigating a mob during anti-CAA protests here on December 15 last year.

Additional District Judge Vipin Kumar Rai granted the interim relief to Khan in two cases related to the violent protests at Jamia Nagar and New Friends Colony on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 2 lakh.

The court directed him not to tamper with evidence or leave the country without its permission.

3 Indian companies get licence to manufacture NASA's coronavirus ventilators

Washington, May 30 (PTI) Three Indian companies have got licences from NASA to manufacture its indigenously developed ventilators for critical COVID-19 patients.

The three Indian companies are Alpha Design Technologies Pvt Ltd, Bharat Forge Ltd and Medha Servo Drives Pvt Ltd, the space organisation said in a statement on Friday.

Apart from the Indian firms, 18 other companies, including eight American and three Brazilian, have been selected to manufacture the critical breathing devices.

Delhi govt seeks Rs 5,000 crore from Centre to pay employees' salaries

New Delhi, May 31 (PTI) The Delhi government has demanded Rs 5,000 crore assistance from the Centre to be able to pay salaries to its employees, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Sunday.

Sisodia, who also holds the finance department charge, said the Delhi government requires Rs 3,500 crore per month to pay salaries to its employees and to meet other needs.
