India: Ram temple will be constructed by 2025: RSS

New Delhi, Jan 18 (PTI) RSS executive head Bhaiyyaji Joshi has expressed confidence that the Ram temple will be constructed in Ayodhya by the time of next 'Kumbh' in 2025, the Sangh said in a statement on Friday.

In a bid to "contextualise" the comments, the RSS in a statement issued by spokesperson Arun Kumar said Joshi had made these remarks on Thursday at the ongoing Kumbh in Praygraj in Uttar Pradesh.

Lt. Governor reviews Delhi's air pollution situation

New Delhi, Jan 18 (PTI) Lt. Governor Anil Baijal on Friday reviewed the air pollution situation in Delhi and asked agencies to direct field officers to visit hotspot and heavily penalise instances of burning of waste, polluting units and dust-generating activities.

Baijal also asked the Delhi government to ensure greening of areas where waste has been lifted to control dust pollution.

Indian NGT slams Volkswagen for not depositing Rs 100 crore as per order

New Delhi, Jan 17 (PTI) The National Green Tribunal (NGT) Thursday slammed German auto major Volkswagen for not depositing Rs 100 crore in accordance with its November 16, 2018 order and directed it to submit the amount within 24 hours.

A bench headed by NGT chairperson Adarsh Kumar Goel took strong exception to the non-compliance of its order by the automobile giant and asked it to give an undertaking that it will submit the amount by 5 PM Friday.

India: Saudi man held at Delhi airport with live bullet

New Delhi, Jan 17 (PTI) A Saudi Arabian national has been apprehended at the Delhi airport for allegedly carrying a live bullet in his bag, an official said Thursday.

A S Wunaymir T was going through the security checks at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday evening when a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan detected a "bullet-like object" in his luggage, the official said.

"A live bullet round was recovered from Wunaymir's bag. He was handed over to the police as he could not produce valid documents for carrying the ammunition," he said.

India: Cong manifesto to be ready by Feb-end

New Delhi, Jan 17 (PTI) The Congress manifesto for Lok Sabha elections would be ready by February-end and the party is reaching out to public and various experts to seek their views in addressing problems confronting the nation including "joblessness and agrarian distress", party leaders said.

Several rounds of extensive consultations with various sections of society in around 30 locations across the country have already been held to seek their views and include them in the party's manifesto.

Why Indian govt bought only 36 Rafale jets: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Jan 18 (PTI) Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Friday accused the government of compromising national security and asked why it bought only 36 Rafale fighter jets instead of 126 required by the Air Force.

His comments come in the wake of fresh revelations on the Rafale deal in a media report which claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to but 36 aircraft instead of the 126 asked for by the Air Force pushed the price of each jet up by 41.42 per cent.

India: Left students union to march to Parliament over communalism, privatisation of education

New Delhi, Jan 16; PTI: Alleging communalism of education, threat to campus democracy and privatisation of education, Left students' unions will march to Parliament on February 18 against the government, a statement from the unions said Wednesday.

The unions, including SFI, AISF, AIDSO, PSU and AISM, have made a slew of demands from the government for the education sector.

Woman gang-raped near east Delhi mall, one held

New Delhi, Jan 16 (PTI) A 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her friend and two of his accomplices in a car near a mall in east Delhi's Shahdara following which the main accused has been arrested, police said Wednesday.

The incident took place on Monday night. A passerby saw the woman crying and called police.

During investigation, it was revealed that the woman and one of the accused came in contact through a common friend couple of months ago. They both were married, police said.

India: Amit Shah hospitalised for swine flu

New Delhi, Jan 16 (PTI) BJP president Amit Shah, who was admitted to AIIMS Wednesday for swine flu treatment, is doing well and will be discharged in a day or two, the party said Thursday.

"National President of BJP, Amit Shah ji, is doing well. He will be discharged in a day or two. Thanks everyone for your good wishes!" the party's media head and Rajya Sabha member Anil Baluni said.

Shah had informed people about his illness Wednesday in a tweet. He was diagnosed with swine flu.
