Rain, Lightning, Thunder Expected In The UAE Starting Friday

ABU DHABI, Mar 25 (NNN-WAM) – Rain is expected over different areas of the UAE, as the country will be affected, starting Friday, by an extension of surface trough from the Red Sea, associated with an airflow from the west, which moves clouds from the west in the form of successive waves, with a chance of lightning and thunder, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

Following is a detailed weather forecast issued by the NCM for the coming few days starting Friday.

USA: Earthquake rattles Salt Lake City in Utah state

LOS ANGELES, March 19 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A shallow 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck near Salt Lake City on Wednesday, rattling residents and causing power outages in the western US state of Utah, the US Geological Survey reported.

The USGS said the quake hit at 1309 GMT four kilometres north of Magna, a township in Salt Lake County, at a depth of 9.6 kilometres.

The quake was felt throughout the area, a map on the monitoring agency website showed, although there were no immediate reports of serious damage.

India: Weather takes terrible turn on Friday afternoon

KANPUR: Of course, nothing definite can be predicted about the weather.  Today's weather took a strange turn as there was scant showers in the afternoon. At about 2:30 p.m. the clouds have pervaded all over giving impression of rains. 

Though there has been registered increase in the daily temperature, sudden convergence of the clouds surprises the residents in Jajmau area here. 

The dark clouds are supposed to be getting ready to rain fiercely but only sometimes  mild,  sometimes strong vibrating thunder of clouds travel. 

Alert Level Raised Over Kanlaon Volcano In Central Philippines

MANILA, Mar 11 (NNN-PNA) – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology today raised the alert level over Mount Kanlaon volcano in the central Philippines, saying the volcano has “entered a period of unrest.”

The institute said, it declared alter level 1, saying that, the volcano on Negros Oriental province, in the country’s Visayas region, “is at an abnormal condition and has entered a period of unrest.”

Two Quakes Rock Western Indonesia, Scores Injured

JAKARTA, Mar 11 (NNN-ANTARA) – Two earthquakes with magnitudes of 5.8 and 4.9, jolted western part of Indonesia province on Tuesday, leaving scores of people wounded and several houses destroyed, officials said.

The latest quake struck at 9:06 p.m. Jakarta time (1406 GMT) (last night), with the epicentre at 88 km southeast of Enggano Island, in Bengkulu province, and the depth at 48 km under the seabed, said Prio Budi, an official at the country’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency.

53 killed in Rwanda heavy rains since January

KIGALI, March 7 (NNN-Xinhua) — At least 53 people were killed and 84 others injured in different parts of Rwanda due to disasters triggered by heavy rains since January this year, Ministry of Emergency Management said.

The ministry said in its disaster update that 858 houses, 196 hectares of crops, 23 roads, 17 bridges and eight churches, among others, were destroyed.

The update cited lightning, floods and rainstorms as the major causes of deaths.

India: Thursday's rains send hint of change in Kanpur weather

KANPUR: The much-awaited rain occurred on Thursday morning. But the day was brighter and sunnier with the sun rays. Though the met department in forecast predicted of paltry sunny weather on a very particular day.  

The shower remained the talk among the ladies as they did not expect of the early morning downpours on Thursday. One lady teacher talking to a housewife said, don't you know it rained early in the morning. In reply to the disclosure, she expressed her complete surprise at the sudden rains. It was shocking to her without a doubt.

Bernie Sanders slams Trump for selling weapons to India

Washington, Feb 25 (PTI) Democratic presidential front-runner Senator Bernie Sanders on Monday slammed President Donald Trump for selling weapons to India, saying that the US should instead partner with New Delhi to fight climate change to save the planet.

Sanders, who has won the Nevada and New Hampshire primaries and tied in Iowa, made the comments after Trump, who is on a two-day visit to India, on Monday announced that the US will sign defence trade deals worth USD 3 billion with India.

Storm Dennis Kills At Least Five In UK, Further Damage Feared

LONDON, Feb 19 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Storm Dennis killed at least five in the country since Saturday, and there is further wet and windy weather to come this week, Britain’s national weather service, the Met Office warned.

Body of a 55-year-old women, who was swept away in Worcestershire, was found Monday. One body was found in a south Wales river, while another was found dead in Scotland mountain track. The other two were found dead in Kent on Sunday, The Times newspaper reported.
