Undetonated WWII aerial bomb excavated and removed from Moscow’s Kremlin

MOSCOW, August 15. /TASS/: A World War II air bomb has been unearthed and removed from Moscow’s Kremlin in the process of archaeological excavation, which had to be paused for a while, the Kremlin’s commandant, Sergei Khlebnikov, told the media on Thursday. The bomb was found on the site of what was once an ice cellar.

"An unexploded air bomb, apparently dating back to World War II, has been found. It lay deep under the surface," he said, adding that the explosive item has been removed from the Kremlin.

EU states including Germany offer to take stranded migrants from Italy

15 August 2019; DW: Germany and five other countries agreed to take in some 150 migrants who have been stranded on a rescue ship off Italy. The country's far-right interior minister refused to allow them to disembark for two weeks.

The latest standoff over immigration in the Mediterranean appeared to be resolved on Thursday after six European Union countries agreed to take in asylum-seekers who are stuck on a rescue vessel off Italy.

Man stabbed at UK Home Office in London

15 August 2019; DW: British police have reported an apparent knife attack near the Home Office in London. Security forces have cordoned off the area, local media said. The incident follows the launch of an anti knife-crime campaign.

A man sustained knife injuries and another one was arrested near the British Home Office building on Thursday, London police said. A Reuters photographer saw a man with facial injuries being led from the buidling.

Rome court says migrant ship can enter Italy’s waters, overriding Salvini

ROME/MADRID, Aug 15 (NNN-AGENCIES) — An administrative court in Rome ruled that a Spanish rescue ship carrying around 150 migrants should be allowed to enter Italian territorial waters in defiance of a ban imposed by Interior Minister Matteo Salvini.

Salvini, leader of the far-right League party, quickly responded that he would not allow the ship entry regardless of the ruling, setting up another high-profile conflict over the issue of immigration which has proved his biggest vote-winner.

Gibraltar to Release Iranian Oil Tanker Grace 1 on Thursday

LONDON, Aug 15 (NNN-SPUNTIK) – The Grace 1 was seized by UK marines on 4 July over an alleged breach of EU sanctions against Syria. Iran’s state-run television and radio corporation IRIB reported earlier, citing sources, that the vessel would be released within 48 hours.

Gibraltar Chief Minister Fabian Picardo said that the Grace 1 would be released on Thursday, adding that Gibraltar authorities would not renew the order to detain the oil tanker

UK planning post-Brexit freight service for vital medicines

LONDON (AP) — The British government wants to create an “express freight service” to ensure essential medicines are still available if the U.K. leaves the European Union without a divorce deal.

The Department of Health said Thursday it is inviting potential providers to submit offers for a contract lasting at least a year. The department hasn’t specified what method of transportation the service would use.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson insists Brexit will happen Oct. 31 whether or not there is an approved agreement with the EU.

23 injured in Russian plane’s emergency landing

MOSCOW (AP) — A passenger jet made an emergency landing in a field outside of one of Moscow’s airports Thursday after colliding with a flock of birds, injuring at least 23 people, Russian officials said.

The Ural Airlines A321 carrying 226 passengers and a crew of seven hit the birds as it took off Thursday from Moscow’s Zhukovsky airport en route for Simferopol, in Crimea.

Potential US pullout from WTO would cloud organization’s survival, Kremlin cautions

MOSCOW, August 14. /TASS/: Washington’s possible withdrawal from the World Trade Organization (WTO) would make its further existence meaningless, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.

"Of course, the existence of this core economic organization would be challenged, once the world’s largest economy leaves it. This is obvious," Peskov said.
