Indian SC extends house arrest of rights activists till Sep 17

New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) The Supreme Court Wednesday extended the house arrest of five rights activists who were arrested in connection with the Koregaon-Bhima violence case till September 17.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud adjourned the hearing on the plea filed by historian Romila Thapar and four others to September 17 after it was submitted that senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who is representing the petitioners, was busy in another court.

PM announces new cleanliness drive

New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday announced the launch of the 'Swachhata Hi Seva Movement' from September 15 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

In a video message, he called upon people to join the movement on Saturday morning.

"I look forward to interacting with those who have worked assiduously on the ground to strengthen the Swachh Bharat (Clean India) Mission after which swachhata (cleanliness) activities will begin," he said.

What’s taking so long to hang her daughter’s rapists and murderers

Nirbhaya’s mother has approached Delhi Mahila Ayog to enquire the reason for delay in hanging her daughter’s rapists and murderers.

Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi said that she wants justice for her daughter, which cannot be done until murderers are hanged.

According to Punjab Kesary, Asha Devi lodged a complaint with DCW in July, asking why it’s taking so long to execute the criminals as per the Spreme Court’s verdict in May 2017.

Court discharges Kejriwal in defamation case over 'thulla' remark

New Delhi, Sep 10 (PTI) A court here Monday discharged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a criminal defamation complaint filed against him over his alleged 'thulla' remark against the city police.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal granted relief to the politician saying the complainant, a Delhi Police constable, was not a person "aggrieved" in the case and, therefore, his complaint of defamation was not maintainable.

Asaram moves mercy plea to Raj guv, seeks dilution of life sentence

Jodhpur, Sep 11 (PTI) Self-styled godman Asaram, who was convicted for raping a minor girl, has sent a mercy plea to the governor of Rajasthan seeking dilution of his life sentence.

On April 25, a Jodhpur court had sentenced Asaram to life in prison after finding him guilty of raping a teenage girl in his ashram five years ago.

Two more arrested to support Hindutva Terrorists

Two more men have been arrested by Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Friday in connection with the seizure of a large scale arms and explosives from Hindutva Terrorist’s home in Mumbai.

Vasudev Suryawanshi (29) and Vijay alias Bhaiyya Lodhi (32) have been arrested on the charges of providing vehicles to other accused to conduct reconnaissance of various places.

Explosives case: Maharashtra ATS arrests two more men

Mumbai, Sep 8 (PTI) The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Maharashtra police on Saturday arrested two more persons in connection with the seizure of explosives and an alleged conspiracy to carry out blasts in the state, an official said.

This takes the number of arrested persons in the case to seven.

Following the interrogation of those held earlier, ATS detained Vasudev Suryawanshi (29) and Vijay alias Bhaiyya Lodhi (32) from Sakri in Jalgaon district of North Maharashtra on Friday, an ATS official said. They were arrested after questioning.
