Laos, China to jointly train Chinese language teachers

VIENTIANE, April 28 (Xinhua) -- An agreement has been inked among the National University of Laos (NUOL), the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) under China's education ministry, and the Guangxi Minzu University in the Lao capital for jointly training Chinese language teachers of Laos.

Lao president extends congratulations to new president of Vietnam

VIENTIANE, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith on Thursday sent a congratulatory message to Vo Van Thuong on his election as president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

In a message, Lao President Thongloun expressed his heartfelt congratulations on Vo Van Thuong's election as President of Vietnam on Thursday.

He said that Thuong's appointment as President of Vietnam demonstrates the trust of the Party, government and people of Vietnam in him.

Laos looks to tourism to drive economic recovery

VIENTIANE, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government considers tourism as its top priority in revitalizing the economy and the country is preparing to welcome an influx of foreign visitors in 2023, a senior official has said.

"We need to improve facilities so we can accommodate more tourists this year and ensure that tourism makes a strong contribution to economic growth," the Lao National Radio on Wednesday quoted Lao Deputy Prime Minister Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune as saying during a Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism's meeting.

Chinese New Year Cultural Events Held In Lao Capital

VIENTIANE, Jan 8 (NNN-KPL) – A series of cultural events, organised by the China Cultural Centre in Laos, and the Culture and Tourism Department of China’s north-eastern Liaoning Province, have been held in the Lao capital, to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year.

The Ancient Chinese Landscape Painting Exhibition, themed “Picturesque Rivers and Mountains,” kicked off the 2023 “Happy Chinese New Year” Festival activities, on Friday.

Sonexay Siphandone Became New PM After Lao Cabinet Reshuffle

VIENTIANE, Dec 31 (NNN-KPL) – The Lao cabinet was reshuffled at the concluding meeting of the Fourth Ordinary Session of the National Assembly (Ninth Legislature) of Laos, held in the Lao capital, Vientiane yesterday, according to local TV reports.

Phankham Viphavanh, in his speech, at the National Assembly (NA) meeting, said to resign from the post of prime minister for reaching the retirement age and health problems.

Lao gov't cancels COVID-19 ATK test for travelers

VIENTIANE, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Lao government has announced the cancellation of required results in 48 hours of Antigen Test Kit (ATK) or Rapid Antigen Test for people entering Laos.

In addition, travelers entering Laos are no longer required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to a report issued on Tuesday from the Center of Information and Education for Health under the Lao Ministry of Health, the announcement aims to facilitate local residents and foreigners who want to depart from Laos or enter the Southeast Asian country.

When addressing a gathering to review the operation of the railway that went optional on Dec. 3, 2021, Sonexay said the cross-border railway, a landmark project of Laos-China friendship, is a strategic project to convert Laos from a landlocked country to a land-linked hub, synergizing with the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative.

Laos To Resume That Luang Festival To Boost Economic Recovery

VIENTIANE, Oct 22 (NNN-KPL) – The Lao government is scheduled to resume the annual That Luang Festival, so as to boost economic recovery and preserve the country’s cultural traditions, after it was cancelled for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Lao authorities are inviting businesses from China, Thailand and Vietnam, to take part in a trade fair, which will take place on Nov 4-8, on the sidelines of the That Luang Festival in the Lao capital, Vientiane.
