BENI, Democratic Republic of Congo, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Hundreds of Ugandan soldiers in armoured vehicles crossed the border into eastern Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday, two witnesses said, as a joint offensive against an Islamic State-linked armed group appeared to expand.

Late on Tuesday Congo said special forces from both countries would be deployed to secure bases belonging to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) militia, which had been targeted by air and artillery strikes earlier in the day. 

BUNIA (DR Congo), Nov 29 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A new attack on the Ivo displaced people’s camp in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday claimed the lives of 22 civilians, an aid worker said.

   The same camp was attacked less than a week ago when 29 people were killed.

   Red Cross coordinator Mambo Bapu Mance said that 20 people were buried immediately in two common graves, while another two who died of their wounds were buried later.

   He accused the armed group Cooperative for the Development of Congo (CODECO) of carrying out the attack.

KINSHASA, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi has agreed to a joint operation with Uganda's army against Islamist rebels accused of suicide bombings in Kampala this month, two diplomatic sources said.

The Islamic State said their local affiliate, known as the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), were behind a Nov. 16 attack which killed seven people, including the three bombers, and injured dozens more. 

GOMA, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nov 22 (Reuters) - Militiamen killed at least 12 people in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo during a raid on a camp for displaced people, a military spokesperson said on Monday, and some civil society groups said the death toll was much higher.

Fighters from the CODECO militia raided the village of Drodro in Ituri province, killing six children, four men and two women as they fled the army response, Jules Ngongo, a spokesperson for Ituri's military government, told Reuters.

KINSHASA, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Hundreds of workers from Democratic Republic of Congo's state-owned ports company stormed its headquarters on Friday, breaking windows, burning furniture and clashing with police over what they say are more than three years of unpaid wages.

The police fired cans of tear gas into the building in the capital Kinshasa as the workers from the Commercial Society of Ports and Transports (SCPT) danced around a pile of burning furniture on the front steps and threw rocks at the officers.

KINSHASA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has confirmed a new Ebola case in the northeastern part of the country, five months after a previous Ebola outbreak was over.

While the country is still in a tough fight against COVID-19, DRC officials confirmed late Friday that a three-year-old boy died of Ebola on Wednesday in Beni, in the northeastern North Kivu province, an epicenter of the last Ebola outbreak that ended on May 3.

KINSHASA, Oct 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Democratic Republic of Congo should renegotiate its US$6 billion infrastructure-for-minerals deal with Chinese investors, according to the draft of a report commissioned by a global anti-corruption body of governments, companies and activists.

The draft describes the deal that was first signed in 2008 as “unconscionable” and urges Congo’s government to cancel an amendment signed secretly in 2017 that sped up payments to Chinese mining investors and slowed reimbursements of investment in infrastructure.

KINSHASA, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- At least 12 civilians were killed in violent clashes Sunday night between the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) and the Patriotic Force and Integrationist of Congo (FPIC), a local militia group, in the city of Makayanga of the northeastern Ituri province.

Several houses were burned by militiamen who fought the army for several hours before retreating to the forest near the attack site, according to local security sources.

BENI, Democratic Republic of Congo, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Suspected Islamist militants killed at least 19 people in a raid on a village in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, local authorities said.

The attackers looted houses and started fires in Kasanzi-Kithovo near Virunga National Park in North Kivu province overnight between Friday and Saturday, they said.

"I don't know where to go with my two children," villager Kahindo Lembula, who lost four of her relatives in the attack, told Reuters by phone. "Only God will help us."

KINSHASA, Aug 16 (Reuters) - Special forces from the United States will soon deploy to Democratic Republic of Congo's restive east to gauge the potential for a local anti-terrorism unit to combat Islamist violence, President Felix Tshisekedi said on Sunday.

The Special Operations Forces arrived in Congo's capital Kinshasa on Friday to "conduct an assessment of a future Congolese counter-terrorism team," U.S. ambassador Mike Hammer said.
