Russia: Moscow set to expand vaccination program next week, mayor says

MOSCOW, December 17. /TASS/: Staff at industrial enterprises, public transport and journalists will be able to get vaccinated against the novel coronavirus in the Russian capital starting from December 21, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Thursday.

As many as 15,000 people have already got the COVID-19 shot, he noted.

Navalny declared his poisoning case solved on Monday after the joint investigation said it had identified a team of assassins from Russia’s FSB security service as his would-be killers, who had stalked him for years.

Russia records over 26,500 new coronavirus cases

MOSCOW, December 16. /TASS/: Russia’s coronavirus case tally rose by 26,509 in the past day to 2,734,454, the anti-coronavirus crisis center told reporters on Wednesday.

In the past two days the growth rate did not exceed 1%.

The lowest growth rates in the past 24 hours were recorded in the Republics of Tuva and Altai, the Nenets Autonomous Region (0.4%), the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Region, the Mari El Republic, the Magadan and Novosibirsk Regions (0.6%).

World Bank expects Russian economic growth in 2021 but warns over banks

MOSCOW (Reuters) - The World Bank expects Russia’s economy to start recovering in 2021, at a pace that may depend on the impact of a COVID-19 vaccine, but has said “the worst may still lie ahead” for Russian banks.

Russia’s commodity-dependent economy has been hit this year by a plunge in prices for oil, its main export, and by the impact of the new coronavirus, with lockdowns slowing business activity.

Russia’s Roscosmos chief confirms plans to launch two Angara carrier rockets in 2021

MOSCOW, December 14. /TASS/: Two launches of Russia’s latest Angara carrier rocket are planned for 2021, Chief of the State Space Corporation Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin announced on Monday.

"Two launches next year," the Roscosmos chief wrote on Twitter, without specifying the rocket’s modifications.

The Roscosmos head told TASS in August that the 2021 plan envisaged the launch of heavy Angara-A5 rocket No. 3 with a new Persei booster and a light Angara-1.2 launch vehicle. He also said that a fourth Angara heavy carrier rocket would be ready in 2021.

Russia develops fully automatic radar system to enhance airspace control

MOSCOW, December 14. /TASS/: The latest radar system Nablyudatel (Observer) has been developed in Russia, Chief of the Aerospace Force’s Radio-Technical Troops Major-General Andrei Koban said in an interview with the Defense Ministry’s Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper on Monday.

"The latest types of radar armament, such as the Nablyudatel FSR and KVP [the Observer federal reconnaissance and airspace control system] have been created and are already in service to boost the airspace control capabilities," the general said.

COVID-19 fatalities in Russia, incidence in Moscow lowest since November

MOSCOW, December 14. /TASS/: The number of fatalities in Russia caused by the coronavirus has increased by 450 over the past 24 hours, the anti-coronavirus crisis center told journalists on Monday. This is the lowest since November 30, when 368 deaths due to the novel infection were recorded.

Some 27,328 cases of the coronavirus infection have been detected in Russia over the past 24 hours compared to 28,080 the day before. In all, since the beginning of the pandemic, 2,681,256 people have been infected in the country or 1.8% of its population.
