Massive Protests Outside Howdy Modi PR Event in Houston

New Delhi; GANASHAKTI: When the Indian mainstream media was going ballistic over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s much-hyped mega event, in Houston, US, that ended up virtually helping Donald Trump’s election campaign, massive protests were going on outside the venue – predictably blacked out by the Indian media.

However, the media in the US did cover the protests, with CNN commenting that Trump and Modi were “two side of the same coin”.

Trial begins for ex-Dallas cop who shot neighbor in his home

DALLAS (AP) — Opening statements are set to begin Monday in the murder trial of a white police officer accused of shooting her black neighbor in his Dallas apartment.

Amber Guyger, 31, is expected in a city courthouse Monday morning, where she will stand trial for the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Botham Jean last year.

The case has attracted intense national scrutiny for its strange circumstances and as one in a chain of shootings of black men by white police officers.

Indian PM Modi meets Kashmiri Pandits in Houston

Houston, Sep 22 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a "special interaction" with a 17-member delegation of Kashmiri Pandits here and assured them of "building a new Kashmir" which would be for everyone.

The delegation, which included Kashmiri Pandits from across the US, met Prime Minister Modi on his arrival in Houston as part as part of his week-long visit to the US.

"Kashmir mein naee hava bah rahee hai (New winds are blowing in Kashmir) and we will all build a new Kashmir together that will be for everyone," he told the delegation.

Kashmiri citizens sue Narendra Modi in US Federal Court

Two Kashmiri citizens have sued Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in US Federal Court Thursday for carrying out extrajudicial killings and other crimes in Indian occupied Kashmir.

The lawsuit was filed just days before Modi is scheduled to speak at a major rally called “Howdy, Modi!” in Houston, Texas, where he will be joined by President Trump.

FAA chief meets Boeing officials, tries out Max simulator

DALLAS (AP) — The chief of the Federal Aviation Administration tested the Boeing 737 Max in a flight simulator Thursday, but the FAA declined to say how its updated anti-stall software performed.

That software kicked in before two Max jets crashed, and fixing it is central to Boeing’s effort to get the grounded airplane flying again.

New FAA chief Stephen Dickson said his agency has no timetable for reviewing changes that Boeing is making to the plane.

Dickson also toured the Max assembly line near Seattle and met with senior Boeing officials.

Conditions in Houston improve as Imelda departs

HOUSTON (AP) — The Latest on the remnants of Tropical Storm Imelda (all times local):

Houston officials say floodwaters are receding across most of the city and efforts will continue through the night to clear the city’s freeways of hundreds of vehicles stalled by the flooding.

The dangerous flooding all but paralyzed the city Thursday after the remnants of Tropical Storm Imelda reversed course and hit Houston and Southeast Texas a second time.

Two people died Thursday. They both drowned.
