MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/: The number of coronavirus cases in Russia grew by 771 in the past 24 hours, reaching 3,548, the coronavirus response center said in a statement on Thursday.
"A total of 3,458 coronavirus cases have so far been recorded in 76 Russian regions. As many as 45 patients recovered in the past 24 hours, 235 were discharged from hospitals. Six coronavirus patients died in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 30," the statement reads.
According to the center, over the past 24 hours, 25 people were discharged from hospitals in Moscow, seven in the Sverdlovsk region, three in the Sakha region and two in the Chelyabinsk region. The Krasnodar, Ivanovo, Stavropol, Kaluga, Primorsky, Perm and Komi regions, as well as Crimea, discharged one patient each.
Three coronavirus patients died in Moscow in the past 24 hours, one in the Moscow region, one in Chechnya and another one in the Perm region.
New cases have been reported in 29 regions of the country, including 595 in Moscow, 43 in the Moscow region, 22 in St. Petersburg, 13 in the Nizhny Novgorod region, 11 in the Leningrad region and ten in Dagestan.
Coronavirus pandemic
In late December 2019, Chinese authorities notified the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, in central China. Since then, cases of the novel coronavirus - named COVID-19 by the WHO - have been reported in every corner of the globe, including Russia.
On March 11, 2020, the WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. To date, more than 900,000 people have been infected worldwide and over 45,000 deaths have been reported.
The Russian government set up an Internet hotline to keep the public informed about the coronavirus situation.
