RAMALLAH, May 3 (NNN-WAFA) – A senior Palestinian official welcomed international “courageous and outspoken voices” slamming Israeli annexation plans.
“In recent days, we have witnessed courageous and outspoken voices from all over the world, condemning and warning against Israeli annexation,” said Hanan Ashrawi, a member of Palestine Liberation Organisation Executive Committee, in a press statement.
“These are positive indicators of change,” her statement added, urging for sanctioning Israel.
Ashrawi said, Israel would continue its measures against Palestinians, including the U.S.-backed plan to annex parts of the occupied West Bank, due to lack of accountability measures against it.
“We urge those principled voices to take proactive steps, in order to deter Israeli crimes, especially in view of the impending annexation, as openly declared by (Israeli Prime Minister) Netanyahu and encouraged by (U.S. Secretary of State) Pompeo,” she said.
Palestine has repeatedly warned against the possibility of Israel’s annexation of large areas of the West Bank, and applying Israeli law on settlements, despite being deemed illegal under international law, jeopardising the chances of a geographically contiguous Palestinian state.
