Kanpur: Despite cold but sunny weather the women did not fail to enjoy the arrival of the new year here on Saturday.
Being a limited gathering, they assembled at the terrace of their Block's five-storey high building in Jajmau area.
What remained special about this special simple event was that nearly all of them brought one or two items.
The whole programme was organised by one little lady assisted by all other women. It was more like a get-together for them. The organiser pointed out that this very particular gathering was to enjoy the moments of the fresh year. We found time to gossip beyond the precincts of our respective spaces. This was what our motive stood.
One among them reached the terrace in a black veil which made other females laugh, giggle and chuckle. However, it was later cleared that she wore a dress similar to the covering usually worne by Muslim ladies.
None among them was a stranger but they were present in complete designer dresses. Some of them wore gaudy makeup too. When asked why did they do so? Their response was it rendered them beautiful.
On their age it can be guessed they ranged from old to middle age group. "Who is the eldest among you?" They replied we were equal in age in spite of age difference.
The temperature was bearable. It was good for them. But the air was slightly harsh. The famous mound of the area was narrowly visible. The Ganga was not far. The view from the terrace was pretty realistic.
