SANTIAGO (Chile), March 14 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Presidents Pedro Castillo Terrones of Peru and Luis Arce Catacora of Bolivia held a private meeting in Santigo de Chile on the sides of Gabriel Boric Font’s inauguration to discuss the possibility of supplying Peru with LPG, among other issues.
Castillo and Arce talked about “cooperation on various issues of shared interests between the two countries”, according to the official Twitter account of the Presidency of Peru.
The two leaders analyzed the implementation of the energy cooperation agreements signed in 2021 to supply Bolivian LPG (liquified petroleum gas) to Peruvian towns and connect the Bolivian gas pipeline to the future gas pipeline in southern Peru.
The possibility of supplying natural gas to the populations in bordering towns was also on the agenda.
The two Presidents also discussed the situation of the Lake Titicaca Autonomous Authority, which aims to manage the water resources of this reserve and is currently being re-engineered.
They also discussed the promotion of the port of Ilo to increase Bolivian cargo.
Together with Castillo were Foreign Minister César Landa and Peru’s Ambassador to Chile, Jaime Pomareda; while joining Arce’s entourage was Foreign Minister Rogelio Mayta.
While in Santigo, Castillo also held a meeting with Peruvian and Chilean businessmen, whom he urged to continue investing in Peru. ”Let’s continue investing in the country. We are a government of openness, we are a government of trust. We have not come to scare away (capital), on the contrary,” the Peruvian head of state said.
Chile is Peru’s second-largest trading partner in Latin America. In December of 2021, Chile’s direct investment in Peru amounted to US$ 3,579.5 million.
