Kanpur: Two female students sought admission to an MBBS course at Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College here on forged allotment letters.
The matter surfaced on Monday when both the students, along with their families, reached the students' section. They are reported to have produced fake allotment letters before the college authorities for admission.
GSVM College principal Dr Sanjay Kala immediately informed the police about the incident.
During the scrutiny of allotment papers, it was discovered that the allotment letter had the forged signatures of the college principal and the person in charge of the Admission Committee.
The paper had an incorrect email address and pin code of the medical college.
With a total capacity of 249 admissions, the GSVM medical college has 250 seats. The process of 249 admissions has already been done.
The arrival of the two girls with allotment papers raised eyebrows immediately.
During the questioning by the police, it was revealed that some fraudsters had taken Rs 32 lakh from one family and Rs 50,000 from the other and guaranteed them admission into the college.
Th college deposits admission fees online or in cash but the fraudsters had asked the students to submit a bank draft of the fee.
The Principal Dr Sanjay Kala said, that this trend (of seeking admission based on fake allotment paper) is being seen all over the state and a large number of cases are coming from here.
Dr Kala added that the administration has been apprised of the situation and urged all students to stay careful of such fraudsters.
According to the police, the families of these two students allegedly gave money to some people in the Kaushambi area of Ghaziabad.
The case will be registered there itself, the police added.
Meanwhile, the police are analysing CCTV footage of the medical college to identify if any of the persons accused of facilitating the fraud are from the medical college.
