AMMAN, Apr 28 (NNN-PETRA) – King Abdullah II of Jordan, yesterday met with visiting Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, and stressed the need to work with the international community, to restore calm in Jerusalem.
During the meeting in Amman, King Abdullah underscored the importance of stepping up efforts, to prevent further violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites, and the people of Jerusalem, according to a statement by the Royal Hashemite Court.
During the meeting, the king indicated that Jordan intensified its coordination with all regional and international partners, to end the escalations that followed violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
He also emphasised the significance of intensifying efforts towards reaching just and comprehensive peace, based on the two-state solution.
For his part, Abbas commended Jordan’s stance in support of the steadfastness of the Palestinians, and in safeguarding the holy sites under the Hashemite custodianship.
