02 July 2022; Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Saturday at noon arrived in the Syrian capital Damascus for talks with high-ranking Syrian officials and was welcomed at the airport by the country’s top diplomat Faisal Mikdad.
Upon his arrival in Damascus, the Iranian foreign minister outlined to journalists the goals of his trip to Syria at a news conference along with Mikdad.
“The Syrian president Bashar al-Assad's recent visit to Tehran marks a new milestone in relations between the two states and we are in a new phase of comprehensive cooperation, including in various economic and trade areas,” Amir-Abdollahian said.
Condemning the attempts of the Zionist regime and their aggression on the territorial integrity of Syria, he stressed, “The Zionists seek to destabilize Damascus and to hinder the returning process of Syrian refugees to their cities and homes in Syria”.
Faisal Mikdad, for his part, said, “Amir-Abdollahian’s visit to Damascus is of special significance as it follows a range of developments in Syria as well as regional and internationally developments”
He stressed that Syria supports Iran’s stance in the course of nuclear talks with the world powers to lift the sanctions imposed on Tehran.
