Kanpur: In charge of the procession, Kafeel Qureshi said that the Paiki procession will not be taken out on the occasion of Moharram this year.
He maintained that given the city's atmosphere, it has been decided not to take out the Paiki procession this year.
We have implored the people to offer prayers at their homes during this year's Moharram and help strengthen peace in the city, he augmented.
A similar decision has also been taken by Khalifa Shakeel of Tanzeem Nishan-e-Paik Qasid-e-Husain in his statement said that there would be no procession of Paiki this year. The district administration has been apprised about the same.
Further, he pointed out that this decision has been taken keeping in view the atmosphere of the city.
We have pleaded with the people not to indulge in any such endeavour, which can affect the law and order of the city, he cleared vehemently.
Meanwhile, Anand Prakash Tiwari, Joint Commissioner of Police, stated, that the specific decision was taken for the peace and tranquillity of the city. The initiative by both the khalifas should be hailed by one and all.
