NAIROBI, March 5 (NNN-KBC) — The US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman broke her silence over the ongoing debate about the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) community in Kenya.
Washington’s top diplomat in Nairobi says every country can make their own decisions about LGBTWQ rights and that there has been no coercion from the world’s largest power. She, however, insists that even though country’s can decide how to deal with gay rights issues, the United States has a different position which is that it views the LGBTQ rights as human rights.
“We respect every country’s point of view on what position they want to take on this (LGBTQ debate) but of course our democratic values and the way we feel is different and that’s okay, because countries are different,” she said
Amid widespread claims that the US was allegedly eager to promote homosexual activities in other countries, Whitman was categorical the claim is untrue, especially as regards Kenya, amid recent ruling by the Supreme Court that gave greenlight to registration of LGBTQ association. Whitman insists the US had no hand whatsoever in the matter.
“We have a very strong working relationship over many years and I think the Kenya government knows the U.S perspective, but we also respect Kenya on this particular (LGBTQ) issue,” she said
Whitman further dismissed claims that the Washington was using its aid mechanism to influence countries into embracing gayism.
“There is absolutely no linkage at all between the food and drug relief (from the US Government) and Kenya’s stance on LGBTQ,” she reiterated.
Meanwhile, Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s spouse, Pastor Dorcas Gachagua, has reiterated that same-sex relationships have no place in Kenya.
Speaking during a wedding ceremony in Nyeri Town Saturday, Gachagua faulted Supreme Court’s recent ruling that dismissed an appeal to bar registration of members of the LGBTQ community.
“They hear it or they don’t hear it, what we are saying, marriage is for a man and a woman. There is no other way, legally, culturally and religiously. And it is the only way. “She said.
She said the country will not be persuaded to ungodly cultures.
