Iran military program deterrence not against other states: FM spokesman

Iran FM Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani has said that the country’s military program is merely for defense and deterrence not to be used against any state, which is not thinking of conducting aggression against the Islamic Republic.

Reacting to recent statments made by the United States’ Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Washington’s plan to disrupt Iran’s military programs and impose new anti-Iran sanctions, Kanaani said on Sunday that the American official made the provocative statement with the aim of marketing for the US-made weaponries via fomenting the failed project of Iranophobia and sowing discord among regional nations.

Contrary to the irresponsible statements, the Islamic Republic has always underscored the need for good neighborliness, dialogue, contribution and cooperation to guarantee security and joint interests of the regional countries away from foreigners’ interventions, he added.

The United States’ irresponsible moves over the last decades are the root cause of insecurity, instability and conflicts in the West Asia region, the spokesman said, noting that it would be better for the country to halt the intervening and reckless approaches towards the regional states and allow the nations in the region to enhance stability and tranquility through cooperation.
