TEHRAN, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi on Wednesday met with the new Turkish Ambassador to Iran Hicabi Kirlangic in Tehran to discuss expanding cross-border cooperation, the official news agency IRNA reported.
During the meeting, Vahidi called for setting up a working group to develop relations between Iranian and Turkish border provinces, said the report.
The Iranian minister also called for enhancing bilateral cooperation in managing foreign nationals' affairs, fighting organized crimes, and countering arms trafficking.
He expressed hopes that the bilateral ties would further develop during Kirlangic's mission, adding that improved Iran-Türkiye relations will benefit regional peace and stability.
The minister stressed that the regional states should resolve the region's problems through increased interactions among themselves and without foreign powers' interference.
The Turkish ambassador, for his part, noted that relations between his country and Iran are "age-old and friendly," calling for increasing bilateral interactions in areas of border trade, security, tourism, and anti-terrorism.
