Colombo, Aug 21 (PTI) Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has warned of the consequences the public will need to face if a longer lockdown is enforced as he ordered a 10-day nationwide shutdown to combat the spike in coronavirus cases.

In a televised address to the nation on Friday, Rajapaksa said he agreed to enforce a brief lockdown from 10 pm till 4 am on August 30, however, if a longer shutdown is enforced in future then the public will need to be prepared to make sacrifices.

20 Aug 2021; MEMO: The Qatar Committee for the Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and the United Nations (UN) yesterday signed on Thursday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to distribute Qatari aid to 100,000 needy families in the Gaza Strip, a senior diplomat said.

Qatari Ambassador to Palestine and the committee's Chairman, Mohammed al-Emadi, said in a statement that he had signed the MoU with the UN special coordinator for the Middle East peace process, Tor Wennesland.

Beijing, Aug 20 (PTI) China's national legislature on Friday formally endorsed the three-child policy mooted by the ruling Communist Party, in a major policy shift aimed to prevent a steep decline in birth rates in the world's most populous country.

The revised Population and Family Planning Law, which allows Chinese couples to have three children, was passed by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC).

Kanpur: The station controller-cum-train operators are being trained at COET, a prominent metro simulator training centre,  in Lucknow.

It is equipped with all the applicable and updated technical gadgets. This thorough training requires a practice of train operation for 400 Kms on a simulator.

This training will help them procure a 'Competency Certificate.'  

This training is important to conduct the trial runs of the elevated Priority Corridor, running from IIT-Kanpur to Motijheel, scheduled for November 2021.

Thirty per cent of the firm's shares – with a total valuation of $3.5 million – were bought by Indian DCM Shriram Industries, Murat Kanber, co-founder of the Turkish company, told Anadolu Agency.

At this week's International Defence Industries Fair (IDEF) in Istanbul, the two companies signed a partnership agreement, he stressed.

New Delhi, Aug 18 (PTI) Domestic cooking gas LPG price on Wednesday was increased by Rs 25 per cylinder - the second straight month of increase in rates.

Subsidised LPG now costs Rs 859 per 14.2-kg cylinder in Delhi, according to a price notification of oil companies.

This is the second straight month of a price increase. Rates were hiked by Rs 25.50 per cylinder on July 1.

Non-subsidised LPG rates were increased on August 1 by the same proportion, and now the subsidised cooking gas prices have been raised.
