Iran starts drilling operation at joint Forouzan Oilfield

Tehran, IRNA – The Managing Director of Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) said that upon the completion of the installation project of the giant offshore rigs, drilling and repairing of oil wells has started in the Forouzan joint oilfield with the purpose of increasing oil extraction.

Alireza Salmanzadeh said on Sunday that installation of the rig this oilfield, ddrilling and repairing 26 oil wells, and an increase of production to 23,000 barrels. 

Dubai's ruler launches a national programme for coders

11 July 2021; MEMO: Dubai's ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, on Saturday launched a national programme for coders that aims to establish 1,000 tech companies, reported Reuters.

The programme will increase start-up investments from 1.5 billion dirhams ($408 million) to 4 billion dirhams ($1 billion).

India: Twitter names Vinay Prakash as Resident Grievance Officer

New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI) Twitter has named Vinay Prakash as its Resident Grievance Officer for India, according to the company's website.

The US-based company has been in the eye of a storm over its alleged failure to comply with the new IT rules in India, which mandates, among other requirements, the appointment of three key personnel -- chief compliance officer, nodal officer and grievance officer by social media platforms with over 50 lakh users. All the three personnel have to be residents in India.

India's coal import rises 20 pc in May

New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI) India's coal import rose 20.4 per cent to 19.92 million tonnes (MT) in the month of May.

The country had imported 16.54 MT of coal in May last fiscal, according to data compiled by mjunction Services.

"On a year-on-year basis, however, India's coal and coke imports in May 2021 were up 20.4 per cent as against 16.54 MT clocked in May 2020," it said.

Import volumes of dry-fuel, it said, are expected to remain subdued in the ongoing monsoon season on account of lower demand, firm prices and high freight rates.

Around 175,000 Russia tourists arrive in Turkey's Antalya in 8 days

10 July 2021; MEMO: Between 1 and 8 July, 644 flights from Russia have landed in the Turkish city of Antalya carrying 174,808 Russian tourists, Anadolu Agency reported on Friday.

Since the start of the year, more than two million tourists have arrived in Antalya, according to Fraport TAV Antalya Airport General Manager Deniz Varol.

China orders takedown of 25 apps from ride service Didi

Beijing, Jul 9 (AP-PTI) China's cyber-regulator ordered 25 apps owned by Didi Global Inc., the country's largest ride-hailing service, be removed from app stores late Friday, citing severe violations of rules against collecting personal data.

The Cyberspace Administration of China already ordered the removal of the main Didi app on Sunday, pending a cybersecurity review, after it debuted on the US stock market last week.

Biden picks Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti to be U.S. ambassador to India

WASHINGTON, July 9 (Reuters) - President Joe Biden has nominated Los Angeles mayor and climate advocate Eric Garcetti to be the U.S. ambassador to India, a country Washington sees as a key partner in its effort to push back against China's expanding power and influence.

Garcetti, a Biden loyalist who co-chaired the successful Biden-Harris 2020 election campaign, has served as mayor of Los Angeles since 2013.

Iran: Hackers disrupt rail service with fake delay messages

Tehran, Jul 10 (AP-PTI) Iran's railroad system came under cyberattack on Friday, a semi-official news agency reported, with hackers posting fake messages about train delays or cancellations on display boards at stations across the country.

The hackers posted messages such as long delayed because of cyberattack" or canceled" on the boards. They also urged passengers to call for information, listing the phone number of the office of the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

India: Petrol crosses Rs 100-mark in UP, Chhattisgarh, Nagaland

New Delhi, Jul 10 (PTI) Petrol price on Saturday crossed the Rs 100-per-litre mark in some places in Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Nagaland after fuel prices were hiked yet again.

Petrol price was hiked by 35 paise per litre and diesel by 26 paise, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

This took fuel prices across the country to a fresh high.

In Delhi, petrol price rose to Rs 100.91 a litre and diesel to Rs 89.88 per litre.
