Turkey sends 50,000 more vaccine doses to Northern Cyprus

09 June 2021; AA: Turkey sent 50,000 more doses of a coronavirus vaccine to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Tuesday. 

A Turkish Health Ministry plane carrying the vaccine doses landed at Ercan International Airport in Lefkosa, where officials of the TRNC’s Health Ministry received the shipment.

With the latest delivery, Turkey has provided the TRNC with 190,000 vaccine doses to date.

India: Covaxin stock for 45-plus age group almost over: Atishi

New Delhi, Jun 8 (PTI) No Delhi government hospital and vaccination centre would administer Covaxin to people aged 45 years and above from Wednesday as the vaccine stock for the age group got "almost over" on Tuesday, said senior AAP leader and legislator Atishi.

Out of Delhi's total 5.50 lakh vaccine stock on Tuesday available for people above 45 years, 5.44 lakh were Covishield and 8,000 Covaxin, the MLA from Kalkaji said.

India: Carry out 'surgical strike' on coronavirus: Bombay HC to Centre

Mumbai, Jun 9 (PTI) The Bombay High Court on Wednesday said the Centre's approach against coronavirus, which is the society's biggest enemy at present, should be "like a surgical strike" instead of standing at the borders waiting for the virus to come out.

A division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G S Kulkarni said the Union government's new "near to home" vaccination programme was like waiting for the virus carrier to come to the Centre.

India: Moradabad ex-mayor dies of Covid

Moradabad, Jun 9 (PTI) Moradabad former mayor and senior journalist Humayun Qadeer died of COVID-19 in a hospital here on Wednesday. He was 73.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.

Qadeer's younger brother said he was suffering from lungs and kidney ailments for the last two years, was also found corona positive recently and was undergoing treatment in a private hospital here.

Humayun Qadeer was the founder and editor of Urdu daily Aain-e-Aalam' and was elected the first mayor of Moradabad on a Samajwadi Party ticket in 1995.

India: J-K gets nine medical oxygen plants from Europe

Srinagar, Jun 7 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir on Monday received nine medical oxygen plants from Europe which will be installed in various health facilities across the Union territory amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

The fresh consignment was received by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Pandurang K Pole, an official spokesman said.

Sharing the details, Pole said out of the nine oxygen generation plants, five would be installed in Kashmir, while the rest would be installed in Jammu division.

India: UP govt announces relaxations in Covid curfew

Lucknow, Jun 8 (PTI) With active COVID-19 cases below the 600-mark in all 75 districts of the state, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday decided to give relaxations in the coronavirus curfew.

"There will be relaxation in coronavirus curfew in all the districts of the state from Wednesday onwards, from 7 am to 7 pm, for five days as the active Covid cases have come below 600," an official spokesman said.

India: Markets, malls reopen in Delhi on odd-even basis

New Delhi, June 7 (PTI) Jolted by the devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the national capital moved slowly towards normal life as markets and malls reopened after nearly two months on Monday morning.

The Delhi Metro, the lifeline of the city, also resumed service with 50 per cent seating capacity and nearly half of its train fleet running from early morning.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a tweet, appealed to people to follow COVID-19 guidelines amid the unlocking process in the national capital.

India: Covid lockdown extended for another week in U'khand

Dehradun, Jun 7 (PTI) The Covid lockdown in Uttarakhand has been extended for another week till June 15 with some relaxations.

The period of current lockdown in the state was scheduled to come to an end at 6 am on Tuesday morning.

Extended for another week, the curfew would remain in force till 6 am on June 15, Chief Secretary Om Prakash had said in an order on Sunday.

The order authorises district magistrates to give relaxations in rural areas under their jurisdiction based on their assessment of the Covid situation.

India: Two held for issuing fake negative Covid RT-PCR test reports

Rishikesh, Jun 5 (PTI) A man and a woman have been arrested here for allegedly issuing fake negative RT-PCR test reports to tourists.

The arrest follows complaints that eight RT-PCR test reports shown by tourists from Delhi on arrival were found fake on scrutiny, Muni-ki-Reti inspector in-charge Kamal Mohan Bhandari said.

India: Drive-through vaccination camp at south Delhi mall

New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) A two-day drive-through vaccination camp for people aged 18 and above was on Friday inaugurated at a plush mall in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj, its organisers said.

The camp, set up in the mall's parking lot, is being run by a leading private facility in partnership with an NGO, they said.

"A temporary drive-through vaccination centre for people aged 18 and above was inaugurated today (Friday). It will run for a total of two days," a spokesperson of Apollo hospital here said, adding that the camp was located in Ambience Mall.
