BRUSSELS, May 12 (NNN-XINHUA) – France and Spain, on Monday, cautiously joined the ranks of European nations loosening COVID-19 restrictions, while the fear of a second-wave outbreak is hanging over.

The easing came a little shy of two months after the two governments imposed nationwide lock-down, to curb the virus pandemic, which so far claimed 26,643 lives in France and 26,744 in Spain.

The relaxation also came as the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced that the global virus caseload passed the 4-million mark.“

MADRID, May 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Five players from Spain’s top two leagues have tested positive for coronavirus, La Liga confirmed.

Players in Spain’s top-flight and Segunda division were allowed to carry out individual work at training grounds last week.

The move was the beginning of a staggered training programme, with the aim to restart competitive games in the middle of June.

La Liga insist identifying infected players through positive tests are part of that plan.

MADRID, May 7 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Spain’s parliament voted to extend the country’s state of emergency, allowing stringent coronavirus lockdown measures to remain in place for at least two more weeks.

The government imposed a nation-wide lockdown nearly eight weeks ago to curb the outbreak, which has killed more than 25,000 people and infected over 220,000 in the country — one of the hardest hit in the world.

MADRID (Reuters) - The number of daily fatalities from the novel coronavirus reported in Spain rose on Monday to 331, up from 288 the previous day, the health ministry said.

The overall death toll caused by the disease rose to 23,521 from 23,190 the day before. The total number of diagnosed cases rose to 209,465 from 207,634 the day before.

MADRID, April 27 (NNN-AGENCIES) —Spain, which has been one of the countries worst hit in the coronavirus pandemic, has reported its lowest daily death toll in more than a month.

Its health ministry said that 288 more people had died of the virus, the lowest number since March 20.

The figure is a steep drop from the 378 deaths recorded on Saturday.

On Sunday, children under the age of 14 were allowed to leave their homes for the first time in six weeks. They are now allowed outside for one hour a day.

MADRID, April 26 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Spaniards will be allowed out for exercise and to take walks from next weekend, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said, in the latest move to ease one of the world’s tightest coronavirus lockdowns.

And the government will on Tuesday unveil its broader lockdown exit plan that will likely be put into action in the second half of May, he said.

“If the pandemic keeps evolving positively as it has been doing until now, from May 2, individual physical activity will be permitted and walks with the people you live with,” he said.

MADRID, April 24 (NNN-AGENCIES) — By the time children under 14 are allowed out of their homes again on Sunday, Spain’s lockdown will have been in place for six weeks.

The government has now given details of how it’ll work under a so-called 1-1-1 rule. Up to three children will be allowed out with one responsible adult for one hour and for up to 1km from their home.

BRUSSELS, Apr 19 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The COVID-19 pandemic continued to hit Europe, as more deaths were registered on Saturday in the continent, especially in those worst-affected countries.

Spain became the second European country to have over 20,000 deaths after Italy, while fatalities in France and Britain passed 19,000 and 15,000, respectively.

Across Europe, over 1.08 million confirmed COVID-19 cases and some 97,200 deaths have been reported so far, according to the latest data from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

MADRID (Reuters) - The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Spain rose to 188,068 on Friday, the country’s head of health emergencies Fernando Simon said at a news conference.

Health authorities identified 5,252 new cases of the virus between Thursday and Friday, which represents a 2.9% increase.
