Chinese-invested economic zone in Cambodia registers trade increase of 38 pct in H1

PHNOM PENH, July 18 (Xinhua) -- The value of imports and exports passing through the Chinese-invested Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ) in Cambodia reached 1.37 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of 2022, up 38 percent year on year, said an operator's report on Monday.

Situated in the southwestern coastal province of Preah Sihanouk, the SSEZ is the country's largest industrial zone in terms of size and occupancy.

Cambodia's ruling party holds extraordinary conference to set action plan for 2023

PHNOM PENH, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) on Saturday held an extraordinary conference of its Central Committee on Saturday to set out an action plan for 2023, the year in which the country's next general elections will be held.

The party's honorary president Samdech Heng Samrin said, in his opening speech, that the CPP's landslide victory in the commune election last month clearly reflected people's confidence in the party's leadership and political programs.

Cambodia To Provide Fifth Dose Of COVID-19 Vaccines To Priority Groups From June 9: PM

PHNOM PENH, May 21 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia will start offering a fifth dose of COVID-19 vaccines to priority groups from June 9, Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, said.

The priority groups include leaders of the government, the senate, the parliament, frontline health workers, government officials, civil servants, armed forces, the elderly, staff of embassies, national and international organisations, journalists, and celebrities.

He said, the interval between the fourth and the fifth doses is at least three months.

Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand to host 3 major leaders' meetings in November: joint statement

PHNOM PENH, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia, Indonesia and Thailand are due to host three important leaders' meetings in the Southeast Asia region this year, according to a joint statement released by the foreign ministries of the three countries on Wednesday.

Cambodia will host the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Related Summits on Nov. 11-13; Indonesia will host the Group of 20 (G20) Summit on Nov. 15-16, and Thailand will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting on Nov. 18-19, the statement said.

Int’l Tourists To Cambodia Up 114 Percent In Q1: Official

PHNOM PENH, Apr 2 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia received a total of 151,680 foreign visitors in the first quarter of 2022, an increase of 114 percent from 70,901 arrivals, recorded in the same period last year, a senior tourism official said yesterday.

Kong Sopheareak, director of Tourism Statistics Department, at the Ministry of Tourism, said that, of the total, 86,588 of them arrived in the country by air, during the Jan-Mar period, up 158 percent year-on-year.

ASEAN envoy says urged restraint from Myanmar military, discussed Suu Kyi access

PHNOM PENH, March 23 (Reuters) - A Southeast Asian envoy said on Wednesday he had urged Myanmar's ruling military to show restraint during offensives and was told by the junta leader there would be no access to ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi while her trial was ongoing.

Prak Sokhonn, special envoy for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), said he sought the release of prisoners including Australian economist Sean Turnell, and junta boss Min Aung Hlaing told him he would consider a request to see Suu Kyi and other detainees in future.

ASEAN special envoy sees minor progress in Myanmar mission

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — Cambodia’s foreign minister on Wednesday claimed minor initial progress in his mission as a special regional envoy seeking to facilitate peacemaking in strife-torn Myanmar.

Prak Sokhonn, representing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, spoke after his return from a visit to military-ruled Myanmar, which was plunged into an extended violent political crisis after the army seized power last year.

Cambodia, Japan agree to ensure full implementation of RCEP free trade deal

PHNOM PENH, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia and Japan on Sunday agreed to ensure the full implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) free trade agreement for the benefit of all, according to a Cambodia-Japan joint statement.

The statement was released after a meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and visiting Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the Peace Palace in capital Phnom Penh.
