Trump’s adviser to brief UNSC on US Mideast plan ahead of Palestinian leader

UNITED NATIONS, Feb 04 (APP): U.S. President Donald Tump’s senior adviser, Jared Kushner, will brief the UN Security Council on his controversial plan for Middle East this week, a few days before the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas arrives in New York to address the 15-member body.

The Palestinians have outrightly rejected the plan and the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), backing their stand, said, “It does not meet the minimum rights and aspirations of Palestinian people.”

UN launches global programme to safeguard sporting events from terror attacks

UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 04 (APP): International sports federation representatives and ambassadors met at the United Nations headquarters in New York Monday to launch a programme aimed at protecting major sports events around the world from terrorist attacks.

The programme will create guidelines for international cooperation between organizations involved in the security of sports events, facilitate the exchange of information and good practices, and develop related public-private partnerships.

UN report endorses Pakistan’s stand about being victim of terrorism from Afghanistan

UNITE NATIONS, Feb 02 (APP): The Monitoring Team of a U.N. Security Council committee overseeing sanctions against Al-Qaeda and Da’esh has, in a report, said that Pakistan too has been a victim of cross-border terrorism emanating from Afghanistan.

The report also expressed concern over the growth of terrorist organizations in Afghanistan and their impact on the region.

Pakistan has consistently maintained that certain terrorist elements have been targeting Pakistan from their bases in Afghanistan.

USA: Jury foreman regrets convicting teen in girl’s 2002 death

NEW YORK (AP) — Citing a recent Associated Press investigation, the foreman of the jury that sent a Minnesota teen away for life in the 2002 death of an 11-year-old girl said Friday he regrets voting to convict.

“I do feel badly,” jury foreman Joe McLean told the AP. “I feel, for lack of a better word, that we were misled.”

“Maybe we should have taken more time,” he added. “Maybe we should have said we couldn’t decide.”

Democrats slam Trump’s Israel-Palestine plan, calling it ‘unacceptable’

China rejects U.S., UK accusation on Syria in Security Council

UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- China's UN envoy on Wednesday refuted accusations by U.S. and British envoys regarding the latest humanitarian crisis in Syria, calling the accusations do not square with the fact and makes no sense.

Speaking at a Security Council meeting, China's Permanent Representative to the UN Zhang Jun stressed that political settlement is the fundamental way to improve the humanitarian situation in Syria.
