7 May 2019 (AP) - Fresh market jitters over the possibility of an escalation in the costly trade war between the U.S. and China pulled stocks broadly lower on Wall Street Monday.

President Donald Trump threatened over the weekend to raise tariffs on goods imported from China. Trump complained that the trade talks between the two countries are moving too slowly.

ANKARA; 6 May 2019; AA: The U.S. has urged Turkey to reconsider its decision to start offshore drilling operations in Cyprus, according to a statement.

“The United States is deeply concerned by Turkey’s announced intentions to begin offshore drilling operations in an area claimed by the Republic of Cyprus as its Exclusive Economic Zone,” Morgan Ortagus, spokesperson for the U.S. Department State said in a statement on Sunday.

6 May 2019; AFP: The United States is sending an aircraft carrier strike group and a bomber task force to the Middle East in a "clear and unmistakable" message to Iran, National Security Advisor John Bolton said Sunday.

"In response to a number of troubling and escalatory indications and warnings, the United States is deploying the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force to the US Central Command region," Bolton said in a statement.

Panama City, May 6 (AFP) Former Panamanian minister Laurentino Cortizo declared victory in the country's presidential polls on Sunday, though the electoral commission has yet to announce the official winner of the vote.
