New Delhi, Jan 7 (PTI) A fringe right-wing group, Hindu Raksha Dal, has purportedly taken responsibility for the attack on JNU students in a video posted on social media.

The video, which was posted on social media on Monday and has gone viral since, shows a man identifying himself as Pinki Chaudhary saying that those who resort to "anti-national activities" will be treated in the same way that JNU students and faculty were.

He later told news channels that others involved in "anti-national activities" will face similar attacks.

New Delhi, Jan 7 (PTI) Under fire from students and faculty members for not doing enough when they were brutally attacked by a masked mob on campus, Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar on Tuesday urged students to put the past behind and return to the varsity's premises.

In a brief statement, Kumar said, "Our heart goes out to all injured students. The incident (violence) is unfortunate. I would like to tell students that JNU campus is a secure place.

"I urge all students to come back to the campus. Let us put the past behind."

Hyderabad, Jan 7 (PTI) Condemning the police for filing cases against students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) injured in recent violence, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday said trespass and attempt to murder cases should be booked against those responsible for the incidents.

He also demanded that the vice-chancellor of JNU should quit and go if there is any shame left over the violence as he was supposed to be the guardian of the students.

New Delhi, Jan 6 (PTI) Tata Motors did not produce a single unit of its entry-level car Nano in 2019 although it sold just one unit in February even as the company is yet to officially retire Ratan Tata's "people's car".

According to a regulatory filing by the company, Tata Motors had zero production and sales of the Nano in December 2019 while it produced 82 units and sold 88 units in December 2018.

New Delhi, Jan 5 (PTI) Swaraj Abhiyan chief Yogendra Yadav was allegedly manhandled outside the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus where a clash broke out between members of the students' union and the ABVP.

Yadav said no one was there to stop the "hooliganism" and he was not allowed to speak to the media.

He alleged that police personnel were standing but were not doing anything, saying "if the police is afraid, they can take out their uniform".

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 6 (PTI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday condemned the violence at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New in Delhi and said "Nazi- style attacks" on students and teachers inside the campus was an attempt to create unrest and violence in the country.

Vijayan said the attack on students is an "appalling display of intolerance running amok" and asked the Sangh Parivar forces to end its "diabolical plan" to silence the universities with bloodshed.

New Delhi, Jan 6 (PTI) The Jawaharlal Nehru Teachers' Association has written to the President, who is the Visitor to the varsity, demanding the removal of the Vice Chancellor.

Holding the Vice Chancellor responsible for the "orgy of violence" in JNU on Sunday, JNUTA said entry of goons into the campus without connivance of the adminstration was not possible.

"The JNUTA with full sense of responsibility accuses the JNU Administration headed by the Vice-Chancellor of being responsible for the orgy of violence in JNU," they said.

New Delhi, Jan 6 (PTI) The wardens of the Sabarmati hostel at the Jawaharlal Nehru University resigned on Monday, stating in their resignation letters that they were quitting on "moral grounds" as they were unable to provide security to the hostel residents.

Sources close to wardens Ramavtar Meena and Prakash Chandra Sahoo, however, alleged that a group of students cornered them when they reached the hostel and accused them of not providing security.

New Delhi, Jan 6 (PTI) The Congress on Monday accused the government of unleashing "state-sponsored terrorism" in campuses across the country and said the violence in the JNU campus reminded it of the Nazi rule.

Demanding a judicial probe into the violence that erupted in the JNU campus on Sunday evening, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said the enquiry should look into the role of the government, the JNU administration and the Delhi police.
