Malaysia: Peace not just absence of war — Poland’s Ambassador

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (NNN-Bernama) — Peace is not just the absence of war, said Poland’s Ambassador to Malaysia Krzysztof Dobrowolski, highlighting the importance of peace and cooperation in the world today.

Dobrowolski made the remarks at the International Day of Peace celebrations in Taiping on Saturday, said Poland’s Embassy in Kuala Lumpur in a statement sent to Bernama.

“It is a positive state of affairs that requires active effort to maintain. We must all work together to build a more peaceful world,” Dobrowolski was quoted as saying in the statement.

The event was jointly organised by the Embassy of Poland and Partners for Peace Malaysia (PFPM).

Ukraine’s Chargé d’Affaires Denys Mykhailiuk, during his peace talk at the event titled ‘The Power of Peace,’ emphasised the importance of peace in Ukraine and around the world, said the statement.

Mykhailiuk spoke about the devastating impact of the war in Ukraine and the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict based on territorial integrity and sovereignty with respect to all nations. 

An exhibition on renowned astronomer and mathematician, Nicholas Copernicus, was also held in conjunction with the celebration which highlighted his contributions to science and his discovery that the Earth revolves around the Sun.

Dobrowolski and other dignitaries also planted peace trees as a symbol of hope for a more peaceful future.

The International Day of Peace is a global holiday that is observed on Sept 21 each year. The day was established by the United Nations in 1981 to promote peace and non-violence around the world.
