Israelis urge Egypt to help free hostages in Gaza

27 October 2023; MEMO: Over 200 Israelis demonstrated outside the Egyptian Embassy in Tel Aviv yesterday to demand the return of prisoners of war held by the Palestinian resistance factions in the besieged Gaza Strip, Anadolu news agency reported.

Protesters gathered at the embassy’s entrance, waving banners demanding Egypt’s help to secure the release of Israelis held by the Palestinian resistance, Israeli Army Radio reported.

The demonstration was held with police permission and overseen by security forces.

The Israeli army yesterday updated the total number of confirmed prisoners of war taken by the resistance, raising the number to 228, including four who were released. The resistance has said approximately 50 have been killed in Israel’s relentless bombardment of the Gaza Strip since 7 October.

Four female prisoners have been released for “humanitarian reasons,” including two women with dual US-Israeli citizenship and two others who are Israelis.

Israel has killed over 7,028 Palestinians, including 2,913 children and injured 18,484 people, in an ongoing bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip while cutting electricity, water, fuel, and medicine from the 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza, causing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
